The Republic Columbus, Indiana Friday, March 25, 1881 Page 4 MRS. BANFILL---OBITUARY "But her works do follow her." Wednesday of last week, as the gray dawn was deepening into day, and kissing the rain-drops from the drowsy lids of morning, the Angel of Death paused by the way and kissed into light the soul of our revered "Mother in Israel," Mrs. Sarah Banfill. He came unarmed-no sword, no deadly shaft quivered in his bow, but gently stooping, quickly kissed her breath away, and she was gone. Another reminder of the admonition, "Be ye also ready." If we could be as ready as she, how entirely death would be robbed of his terror. Her seat in the church is vacant now, though the last time it was my privilege to be there her gentle hand was laid in mine while the last kiss was pressed on her pale lips. Thirty years ago she taught my untutoed lips to pray in the prayer-meeting. What earnest solicitude she evinced for the young! How faithfully she labored in the Sabbath-school, hundreds can bear testimony. Her crown is not starless. "She will be remembered for the good she has done." Two days before her death she was out for a drive. The day was lovely and all nature was attractice, yet she forgot not two more aged and infirm than herself, and stopped to visit them. These were her last visits to Mrs. Hulbert and Mrs. Wiles. They will miss her. Her pastor will miss her earnest face, upturned to catch his every word. She was in the church militant on Sabbath morning. On Wednesday morning in the church triumphant, praising the God she loved to honor here. Of her children I ask, why should you mourn? Rather be comforted that she was tenderly transplanted; that loving hands were outstretched to receive her, of thos who had gone before. You have made the evening of her life so restful, surrounding her with every comfort. Her every wich was anticipated and complied with without being uttered. She grew old beautifully, her children doeing her reverence. Your example is worthy of imitation. Let your submission be manifest, feeling that your mother's God is a God of love, "and doeth all things well." M.F.H.
