The Republic Columbus, Indiana Monday, September 21, 1896 Page 4 Obituary How little did we think a few short months ago that Nellie Clem, then in the bloom of youth and health, was so soon to be again consigned to earth. She died Sept. 14th, 1896, aged 20 years and 6 months. Her life was short, but sufficed to disclose a nature most beautiful and susceptive. How deeply we feel the loss, and how highly we esteemed her was shown by the attendance of the entire community at the funeral the following day. The floral offerings were many and her grave was left a perfect profusion of flowers. Consumption placed its fangs upon her, and when she realized that she was drooping daily 'neath its sting, she calmly resigned herself to the will of her Maker, although life was very dear to her. We might say of her, using the words of the poet: "She is not dead, this child of our affection, But gone into that school, Where she doth not need our poor protection And Christ Himself doth rule."
