The Columbus Republican Columbus, Indiana Thursday, January 12, 1911 Page 6 FORMER SHERIFF IS DEAD AT FARM HOME William F. Dinkins Died Sunday Morning After Long Illness-Was Well Known and Well Liked. William F. Dinkins, former sheriff of Bartholomew county and a well known citizen, died at his home south east of this city, near Wiggs station, Sunday morning at 3 o'clock. He had been in poor health for two years and for the past several weeks was confined to his bed. He grew steadily weaker and several days ago it was feared he might die any minute. Mr. Dinkins was 57 years old last March. He was born in Sandcreek township and spent his entire life in Bartholomew county. In 1873 he married Miss Mollie Pierece and five children were born to them. Four are living. They are Charles Dinkins, of this city; George Dinkins, who live on the old home place; Chester, who lives at home, and Mrs. Samuel Sharp, who lives near the old home place. Mr. Dinkins never belonged to a lodge but he was a devout member of the Christian church and was regular in his attendance whenever his health permitted him to go. He was a life long republican and the only time he ever held public office was when he was elected sheriff of Bartholomew county and served honorably and efficiently for a term of two years. Both as a farmer and as a public official Mr. Dinkins made friend throughout the county and he was a well liked man. He made no enemies while in office and he made none in private life. He was always cheerful, kindly and just in his treatment of all men and he had many warm friends who are saddened to hear of his death. The funeral was held from the Section church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. W.H. Book, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. The funeral was largely attended, as Mr. Dinkins was a man who had many friends. The people who attended the services went not only from the immediate neighborhood, but from other parts of the county as well. A number of former county officials attended the services.
