The Republic Columbus, Indiana Monday, September 12, 1898 Page 4 Obituary The funeral of Mrs. A.E. Elzea took place in the Christian church in East Columbus Monday, Sept. 5, 1898, elder A.O. Swartwood, of State Line, officiating, assisted by Elder Goodrich. Burial at the Newsom cemetery near Elizabethtown. Mrs. Amanda Jane Elzea, wife of Mr. A.E. Elzea, of East Columbus, and daughter of Mr. Wm. Sweet of Elizabethtown, was born near Elizabethtown, Feb. 4, 1851. Departed this life, at the insane hospital, Indianapolis, Sept. 3rd, aged 47 years, 6 months, 29 days. She was married to Mr. Elzea August 1st, 1869. To them were born four sons and one daughter, all of whom are left to comfort the bereaved husband. She became a member of the Christian church at Elizabethtown in the spring of 1872, remaining there until about five years ago, when she came in with the brethren composing the Christian church in East Columbus. She lead an active christian life until stricken down with the disease which caused her death. She leaves her husband, five children, father and mother, three brothers and three sisters, together with a multitude of friends to mourn her departure. The husband has lost a loving companion, the children a devoted mother, the parents a sweet spirited daughter, and the church and community a faithful member. To all these is a great loss, but we believe our loss to be her eternal gain. E.O. Swartwood. State Line, Ind.
