The Republic Columbus, Indiana Tuesday, August 18, 1896 Page 4 OBITUARY Mrs. Joseph Gillaspie died at her home in Trafalgar, Johnson county, Saturday, August 15, 1896, aged 34 years. The funeral services were held Sunday at the Christian church in Trafalgar and was attended by relatives from this place and others. The burial was at Mt. Carmel cemetery. Mrs. Gillaspie, who before her marriage was Miss Ida Shake, was one of twelve children, three sons and nine daughters. Her death was the first that has occurred in the family for thiry-nine years. She also leaves a husband and five children to mourn her loss. She was a woman of most lovable traits of character, kind and devoted to her family, friendly and pleasant to all who came within the influence of her presence, and a devoted Christian from her early youth. Her funeral was attended by a very large concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives and it was one of the saddest ever witnessed. So many had been comforted by that hand and voice now cold and silent that the tears of all flowed freely as they saw their loved on laid away in the grave. Hers was a noble life and its influence will long remain to comfort those who now mourn.
