Holland, son of Joshua and Joanna Holland, was born at the old homestead two miles east of Newbern, March 4, 1832, and died September 1, 1894, near Mathewson, Kansas. He joined the M.E. church at Newbern in December, 1872. He was married to Charity Brown, daughter of Thos. M. Brown, August 20, 1874. For the past ten years he has resided with his family in southern Kansas, keeping warm his membership to the M.E. church. He leaves a wife and five children-all girls-ranging in age from ten to nineteen years. He spent much pains toward the education of his children. Ida, the second daughter will attend the high school at Parsons, Kansas, the coming year. He was an esteemed and honored citizen, being favored with teh office of justice of the peace, which office he held till death. Every one praised him for the affection and fatherly care he bestowed upon his family, and they knew nothing but to exchange love for love. It seems hard to give up one so good and true, but we remember how powerful is the example of the good, let us resign ourselves to the will of Him that sitteth on the throne, and rejoice that we all may in turn be gathered home.
