The Colubus Republican Columbus, Indiana Friday, February 28, 1896 Page 2 OBITUARY Nathan Reed was born near Brookville, Franklin county, October 25, 1825. Died January 28, 1896, aged 70 years, 3 months and 3 days. He was the fifth child of seven in the family of Andrew Reed, all of whom have passed away except one brother, who was present at the funeral. Nathan Reed came to Bartholomew county, Ind., in the year 1853 and settled on teh farm where he still lived up intil the time of his death. He was married to Mary A. Adams March 18, 1855. By this union ten children were born, of which six have answered to the roll call on high, as follows: Rebecca, January 11, 1865; Cinda May 13, 1889; Sarah, April 30, 1895; Frankie, July 27, 1895; William, Septermber 6, 1895; Mattie, October 13, 1895. He was consecrated to God in infancy by Christian parents, and in 1860 he united himself with the Presbyterian church at Donaldson, where he was a devoted laborer for the cause of Christ. Three years ago he united himself with the M.E. church at Burnsville, where he still remained up unti; the time of his death. He was a devoted Christian, a kind husband and a loving father. He leaves a wife, daughter, three sons, a brother, ten grandchildren and a circle of relatives and friend to mourn. Their loss is his gain. There is no death. But angel forms Walk o'er the earth with silent tread; They bear our best-loved things away, And then we call them "dead." And ever near up, thought unseen, The dear immortal spirits tread.
