In June, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Indiana Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Indiana, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index. At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the webpage.

Boone County was named in honor of Daniel Boone, the noted Kentucky hunter and pioneer. The county was organized on April 1, 1830, when there were only 622 citizens in the county. Lebanon was chosen as the name of the county seat.

Description of Picture. Hello. I am Terry Engel, Coordinator for the Boone County, Indiana, INGenWeb site.

First, let me apologize for the state of the site. It needs a consistent style and navigation scheme, and I am working on that.

I took over the coordination of the Boone County site in August, 2022. At that time, a significant amount of information that was once on the Boone County site was believed to have been lost. Fortunately, it is not lost. However, it was "suspended" as part of a project to give the site a facelift. The information was being brought back online page-by-page, as the new style of pages were being developed.

As the new coordinator, I've decided to make access to the information my first priority. Therefore, I am putting all of the pages back, as best as I can, and trying to ensure the links between them are working. Over time, I will pick and apply a consistent style and navigation schema. Until then, the site will feel a little bit like a labrythine patchwork. During this time, your browser's Back button is your friend! However, all the information that was there in the past should still be there.

Unfortunately, all of this means that until I get more of a handle on the site itself, I may not be very efficient with adding information. Nonetheless, if you have new information, pictures, abstracts, etc., please do send them to me.

I have attempted to ensure that all names and contact information for myself and the state coordinators have been updated in these pages while I begin working on the site. The correct names and email addresses are below. If you see a page with incorrect contact information, please let me know.

Boone County Coordinator Terry Engel boonecounty076@gmail.com
INGenWeb State Coordinator Lena Harper gostraka@yahoo.com
Assistant State Coordinator Jim Cox nyclvr2012@gmail.com
Assistant State Coordinator Karen Zach karen.zach@sbcglobal.net

On one other note, I have obtained the email address boonecounty076@gmail.com. If I hand off coordination of this county site in the future, I will also work to hand over the credentials for that Google account, so that we can retain continuity for the website.

I thank you for your patience while I work to get the Boone County, Indiana site into the state that it should be.

If you have any suggestions for the site, or additional materials to be posted, please email me at boonecounty076@gmail.com
