Robert Hamil
 

ROBERT HAMIL Was born in Preble County, Ohio, May 18, 1809; married to Elizabeth Nestbit, August 17, 1830, in Ohio. Came to Thorntown in 1832, where he engaged in merchandising, and was one of the pioneer merchants, and was the first postmaster there. Was justice of the peace for sixteen years; a member of the Presbyterian Church, and in every way active, influential man. Was a devoted temperance advocate, and a free-soiler. Died July 1, 1867; is at the new cemetery in Thorntown. He settled on his farm, one mile east of Thorntown, in the year 1834, where he died. Mrs. Hamil is the sister of the late Dr. Jackson Nestbit, at one time county treasurer; died in Ohio, 1862. The following are the names of Mr. And Mrs. Hamil's children: Robert W., born August 27, 1846; married to Sarah M Henderson; reside at home. Maggi E., married to James Lambert; born May 12, 1852. She died ten years after her marriage. Mr. Hamil in person was medium size, dark hair, fair complexion, good features.
