Harry Bohannon Will

LEGATEES NAMED IN BOHANNON WILL

Bequests Total More Than $50,000

The will of Harry Bohannon, providing for the distribution of cash bequests totaling more than $50,000 to relatives, friends and institutions, was probated in Boone Circuit Court. Mr. Bohannon, for 35 years a traveling representative of the Indianapolis Stove Company, and long active in the Lebanon First Baptist Church, passed away November 17. In his will, which was made September 12, 1939, he asked that Harry V. Jones of this city serve as executor. As yet no papers have been filed placing a value on the estate.

Under terms of the will, three brothers, John R. Bohannon [illegible] Edward Bohannon of Lebanon and George Bohannon of Indianapolis are each to receive $2,000. After payment of these bequests the widow, Mrs. Mazephia (Abbitt) Bohannon is to receive a lifetime interest in the remainder of the estate.

After her death the will directs that the executor convert all real estate and personal property into cash and pay the following legacies:

To Oak Hill Cemetery Association of Lebanon, $5,000 for development of cemetery grounds and preferably for construction of an office building at the west entrance; and also $1,000 to be held in trust, the income to be used in keeping vases in proper repair, to supply flowers for the vases and to maintain the Bohannon and John W. Abbitt family lots.

To trustees of Crawford Industrial Home in Eagle township, $2,000 to be held in trust and income applied to maintenance of Home.

To Mary E. Huff, Ruth Cowley and Katherine Metz, the first two children of former pastors of the Lebanon First Baptist Church and the last named a daughter of the present pastor, $500 each.

To Alma Wagoner, niece, $1,500; Evelyn Bonwell, niece, $2,500; Oral Bonwell, nephew, $1,500; Raymond Abbitt, nephew, $2,500; Cecil Abbitt, nephew, $1,500; Jacob R. Bohannon, nephew, $5,000 if he is living at time bequest becomes payable, but if he should die before bequest becomes payable without leaving an heir or heirs the request shall revert to the estate.

To James R. Bohannon, nephew, $5,000; to Minnis L. Ottinger, nephew, $100; to Doris Bohannon, niece, $500; to John R. Bohannon, brother, $12,000; to George Bohannon, brother, $8,000; to Edward Bohannon, brother, $8,000 if he is living at the time of the death of the decedent’s wife, and if not, $3,500 shall go to his wife, Geneva Bohannon, and the remainder to revert to the estate; to Louvene Ottinger, sister, $100.

The will directs that the remainder of the estate, not otherwise disposed of by this document, shall go to Jacob R. and James … Bohannon, nephews, and Doris Bohannon Sallee, niece, in equal portions.

Note: "I do not have his dates of birth or death, but believed to be born approximately 1865, and died after 1939."
