The old Clark County Cemeteries Guestbook bit the dust in January of 1999. I tried for months to get it working again, to no avail. In August 1999, I gave up and installed a completely new and different type of Guestbook. You can access the new Guestbook by clicking below.

I was thrilled to see at what lengths you have gone to try to preserve
these important pieces of the past. However, I am mortified to see that
several cemeteries are gone or in danger of disappearing. How can people
be so oblivious to pieces of our past not to mention so callous in doing
this to the memory of our ancestors in their final resting place. On a
lighter note, do you have the address of the church so that I might be
able to contact Rev. Bowyer? Thank you, Melissa Bowyer

the others.

I am searching for my husband's family buried there, but there does
not seem to be any alfabetical order of names. It is very hard to find
any unmarked graves. Looking for Tawney's, Enlow's, Ware's, and Ritter's.

You're doing a great job. I wish you success with your battle against

I wish all counties had a site like this one. I found the cemetary
and even a map and directions on how to get there. However, I was able
to print only the first page of the Madison Twshp cemetaries, and the Link
to the row by row index http://www.rootsweb.com/~incccpc/HoosierJournal.html
did not work.

Wish Floyd Co. would get theirs listed too. Have not traced anyone bach
to Clark Co. yet but since family is in and around Floyd and Harrison sure
we will have some in Clark too.

Excellent website. Your dedication to preservation is heartwarming.

According to a distant relative, my great-great-grandfather's family,
the Beggs family, came from Clark County, Indiana. This is news to me ...
the farthest I've been able to trace that family line has been to Arcola,
Douglas County, Illinois.

I think it's awesome how this page is up. I wish I could have the
time to make one for the Marion County, and other county, cemetaries. I
perhaps might :) I enjoy visiting these places, for historical and such
reasons. I found a wonderful graveyard - the Augusta Cemetary, off of Michigan
avenue, in Indianapolis. I'm trying to find info about it. If anyone knows
anything about this cemetary, in Marion County, any info would be obliged
:) thanks for having such a great page! Sarah

Comments:
I am a direct descendant to John and Nancy (Hilton) Odem. I believe
that there is more than a remote possibility that the John and Nancy Odom
listed on your site are these people. Nancy and John were married 1 Aug
1810 in Clark Co. IN, had children ther and most likely died in the area.
Could the stones, if still available, be inspected by someone there to
see if the name Odem instead Odom appears? Thank you, Jay

Today, 08-23-98 is the second time that I have read about the terrible
way the State of Indiana treats their older cemeteries. I live in Ohio,
and have a gr-gr-grandfather that is burried in a very small old church
cemetery in a rural area. He was the l st surviving Civil War Veteran in
Warren Co. Ohio, and lived to a ripe old age of 92. It brings to mind that
maybe I should be concerned of what the State of Ohio might do if they
decide to spread the City of Blanchester out or the City of Xenia to encom
ass the land that the cemetery is on. The cemetery is only about 10 miles
out in either direction of these cities. I hope that the State of Indiana
comes to it's senses and that the people who have relative in these cemeteries
don't stop complaining lou and clear until something is done to change
the law.
Comments:
I must commend you all for the great job you all have done on the cemetary
project. I am appalled by the effects on the cemetaries caused by progress, neglect,
and time and indiffernce.I thought cemetaries were sacred. I wish tho more
records and history c uld be put on all sites for us that live so far and
have tight budgets. Again - a great job done with what you all were left
to do with. Thanks.

I'm so glad that a note was put about the Indiana code. Even though

As reported in 18 July 1887 Charlestown Democrat newspaper, my ancestor,
Louis LITTLE was killed in an accident in Clark County at Boyers Landing
opposite Westport, but I do not know where he was buried. Louis was born
29 Oct 1867 and married to Ida Be le MORGAN.
Comments:
When I first visited this cemetery, it was in a teriable state. As
my health was not such that I could attempt the project of restoration,
I tried in vain to locate someone to do it. It does my heart a world of
good to see what has been accomplished. My only hope is that the work will
not stop here, and that an attempt will be made to uncover graves, or find
grave markers which have been burried by the debris. Thanks to every one
who participated in this project.

I do not know if any of my family are buried in Clark Co.--I know some
were married there and lived there. I have a number of ancestors that died
in Indiana between 1827 and 1860. I have no idea where to search for them.
I found some in the Hurst Cemete y in Rush Co. I think one may have died
in Bartholomew Co. and one in Ripley Co.
Comments:
I wish more counties would follow your examples. This is amazing of
the time and work that this has been for you. As far as I know, I don't
have any ancestors buried in Clark Co., but if I found any that are, I
know that I will probably find them through your great work and time. Just
wanted to tell you and hope more counties will do the same. Thank you.
