This cemetery is located at the New Market Presbyterian Church on New Market-New Washington Road. This site is referred to in the Hoosier Journal of Ancestry's Clark County Cemeteries publication as "New Market Presbyterian Church Cemetery".
I
am told that the correct name for this site is
Mt. Vernon Presbyterian
Church Cemetery; however, "New Market" is the name on the weathered
old sign on the front of the church. (See photo at left.)
The cemetery is located diagonally across the road from New Market Christian Church and Cemetery, in the southeast corner of Grant 195 on New Market Road.
The church here is no longer active, but there are probably over 200 burials here. The grounds were on August 5, 2000, meticulously groomed; however, there are many, many broken stones here. Someone has attempted to gather together pieces of broken stones and placed them on the stone fence, obviously attempting to piece them together like jigsaw puzzle pieces. This does keep them out of the path of the mowers and may help to protect them. Hopefully, some serious stone repair efforts are planned for the near future.
