Mahlon Neal mill

Mahlon Neal came to live in Lewis Township, Clay County, IN in 1838.  He had
several occupations during his lifetime.  He was a miller, merchant, educator
and farmer.
Neal's Mill was built by Mahlon Neal in middle 1860s.  It was used as a part
of the Underground Railroad.  In this part of Indiana the Underground
Railroad used the Old New Albany as an escape route to Canada and freedom.
After the Mill burned, it was rebuilt in 1873 by Mahlon, his two eldest sons,
Albert and James B., and a nephew, Henry Z.
