Robert Chambers

Robert Orville Chambers, 83, of Washington, died at 7:40 p.m. Monday at Washington Nursing Center. Born May 24, 1925, in Daviess County, he was the son of Orville A. and Vivian (Arnold) Chambers. A 1943 graduate of Washington High School, he also graduated from Indiana University School of Law. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was a retired attorney, having practiced in Washington from 1953 to 1983. Mr. Chambers and Tom Shirk established Hoosier Magnetics. Mr. Chambers was an entreprenuer, being responsible for several local industries. Also he raised quarter horses and was a judge of quarter horses throughout the United States and Canada. In 1989 he rode a horse around the world. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge, Rotary Club and American Legion. He is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Grant and Kathy Chamber, Blake Chambers and Jeff Chambers, all of Washington; grandchildren, Blake Chambers Jr., Elizabeth Chambers, Clinton Chambers, Emily Chambers and Ethan Chambers; and great-grandson, Alex May. His wife, Jo Ann (Larrick) Chambers, whom he married June 21, 1947, died July 25, 1981. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Gill Chapel, with Bro. David Woodrum officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. The American Legion will present the flag at graveside. Visitation is after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to the National Parkinson’s Foundation or the Daviess County YMCA.
