Roscoe E. Chestnut

Roscoe E. Chestnut, 82, passed away Friday at the Ruth Lilly Yellow Rose Hospice Unit, with his wife at his side. He was the only son of the late Elmer and Lura (Myers) Chestnut, born in Odon on Nov. 11, 1923. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Jean (Bussinger) Chestnut, devoted daughter, Marla Riddle (Rick), and son, Roger Chestnut. Also surviving are granddaughters Kristi Hinkle (Matt), Kim Carandang, Kara Lauck (David), and Katy Mooney; and six great grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps at Tinian Island during World War II. He retired from Citizens Gas and Coke Utility after 30 years as a customer service representative in 1984. He enjoyed jazz and played the saxophone for the Hendricks County Ramblers for over 10 years. His love of nature and gardening was second to his love of his family. His strong spirit and gusto for life remained until the end. Funeral service will be at 1PM at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call from 2PM to 6PM Sunday. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ruth Lille Yellow Rose Hospice.
