Nicholas J. Clauss

Nicholas J Clauss Nicholas(Nick) J Clauss, well known retired laborer, past away at his home on Maxwell Ave. yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock of complications. He had been a critical condition for the past week following a lingering illness of 18 months. He was 58 years old. A lifelong Washington resident & a member of St. Mary's Church. Mr. Clauss was born in this city on June 24, 1888, the son of Nicholas Clauss Sr. & Margaret Nimiskern Clauss, both natives of Germany. He was educated at St. Mary's school. On January 28, 1913, he was wed to Mary Norris who survives with the following children: Mrs. Dorothy Walford, city; Harold Clauss, city; Robert Clauss, city; Mrs. Loretta Rego, Vincennes & John Clauss, at home. One son Sgt. James N Clauss died in February 1943. His only sister, Mrs. Margaret Mangin proceeded him in death. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Mary's Church with interment following in St. John's cemetery. Friends may call at the residence on Maxwell Ave. to pay their respects.
