Ward W. Matthews

Ward W. Matthews, 74, Rt. 1, died at his residence at 3:50PM Wednesday. Funeral services will be conducted at 2PM Saturday from the Odon United Methodist Church with burial in Walnut Hill Cemetery. The casket will be at the church at noon the day of the services. Friends may call on Poindexter Funeral Home in Odon after 1PM Friday where Masonic memorial services will be conducted at 7PM. Mr. Matthews was born in Daviess County Sept. 11, 1909, the son of John and Maude Crecelius Matthews. He married Grace Williams July 1, 1935, who survives. He was retired from the Indiana State Bureau of Motor Vehicles and was a member of the Odon United Methodist Church, the Plainville Masonic Lodge 678, Madison Township Advisory Board and served as Madison Township precinct committeeman. Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Tom Matthews of Terre Haute, Joe Matthews of Dana, and Van Matthews of Fayetteville, NC; three daughters, Ms. Lue Brindhammer of Indianapolis, Mrs. David (Sue) Houk of Madison, and Mrs. Rick (Kay) Laughlin of Odon; one sister, Mrs. George (Helen) Feaster of Winslow; one brother, Ray Bynum of Portland; 14 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. One daughter and one sister preceded him in death.

The funeral of Ward W. Matthews was at 2PM Saturday at the Odon United Methodist Church with the Rev. Carl Dixon and the Rev. Kenneth Brock officiating. Burial was in the Walnut Hill Cemetery. Bearers were Lloyd Weber, Grant Feaster, William Ketchem, Charles Correll, J.T. Matthews and Kenny Craigmyle
