Jane Mead

Jane Ashcrauft, daughter of Ephriam and Elizabeth Ashcrauft was born in Butler County, Ohio, Nov. 29, 1821 and came to Dearborn county, with her parents in 1835. In 1842 she came to Washington, IN., with her brother, Jacob and family and was married to John B. Mead in Washington in 1845. There was born to this union nine children, seven of whom are living.They are WM. S. Mead of Spencer, Mary Madora Williams of this place,Darius E. Mead of Jeffersonville, Laura Allen of Plainville, Ida Hatton of Upland, Cal., Martha Sparks and Elmer E. Mead of Cornettsville. "Aunt Jane" as she was called was well known and loved by many of the older citizens of Daviess county as well as by many of the younger people in the neighborhood in which she has lived. She was a member of the Christian church for more than fifty years. She died at the residence of her son in law James Sparks near Cornettsville on the morning of Sept 23. The funeral services were conducted by Elder C.H. Buchanan, Sunday morning at the Cornettsville M.E. Church. Burial in the Cornettsville cemetery.
