CANNELBURG MAN KILLED INSTANTLY IN AUTO CRASH
Gerald Wes POTTS, age 22, Cannelburg, R. R. 1, was killed at 11:30 p.m. Saturday night on Highway 56, one mile east of Crystal, in Dubois county. Crystal is located about eight miles east of Haysville.
State police reported POTTS was driving west on highway 56 at a high rate of speed. POTTS apparently lost control of the car as it approached a sharp curve and the car struck a sycamore tree, killing him instantly and pinning him in the back part of the auto.
It took workers approximately two hours to clear him from the wreckage.
POTTS was born Oct 7, 1946, in Washington, IN, the son of Paul R. and Lillian (GOULD) POTTS, who survive.
POTTS was an assembly worker at the McCord Corporation plant in Washington. He was a member of the American Legion, having served as a sergeant in the Army. He enlisted in the Army, Apr 4, 1966 and was separated from service last March 15. He had served 18 months in Germany.
Mr. POTTS was also a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aero Space Workers Union, local 2041. He was graduated from Alfordsville High School. Other survivors are two brothers, Paul E. and Richard R, both of Cannelburg ; one sister, Mrs. Nick (Serria Sue) RAGSDALE, of Washington, RR 4, and his grandmother, Mrs. Jesse GOULD, of Washington.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Gill Funeral Home in Washington, with Rev. R. P. HAWKINS officiating and burial in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Reeve Township.
