Paul Smith

HOLLAND - Paul E. Smith, 85, died of cardiac arrest at 5:17 a.m. Thursday at the Deaconess-St. Joseph's Hospital emergency room. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Huntingburg. Burial will follow in the Mayo Cemetery. The Rev. William Covey will conduct the funeral rites. Friends may call at the Nass and Son Funeral Home, Huntingburg, from 2 to 9 tonight and an hour prior to service time at the church. He was born on Nov. 10, 1914, in Daviess County, to John and Nancy Lulu (Ragsdale) Smith. His wife, Rachel (Birch) Smith, preceded him in death on March 12, 1993. Smith was a retired independent milk hauler. He also was a First Church of the Nazarene charter member in Huntingburg. Surviving are: three sons, Gerald B. (Jerry) and Paul M. Smith, both of Holland and Ronald L. Smith, Huntingburg; a sister, Doris Doades, Washington; seven grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 19 stepgreat-grandchildren and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Scales and Leona Schnarr and two brothers, Orion and John Smith.
