Death Removes Mrs. Swickard
ALFORDSVILLE, IN, Feb 7--Mrs. Martha Alice Swickard, 80, wife of Alexander Chester Swickard, of Reeve Township, died at 10 O'clock Thursday night at the family home near here.
A complication of ailments due to advanced age was given as the cause of death, and came after a two year serious illness.
A native of Crawford county, the deceased woman was born February 2nd, 1861, the daughter of William B. and Mary A. (Newman) Walls. She married Mr. Swickard on April 4th, 1889, and had been a resident of the Alfordsville community for many years.
Mrs. Swickard was a member of the Christian church of Alfordsville.
Surviving besides the husband are the following children, Mrs.Lanah Florence Van Winkle of Mooresville, IN: Mrs. Mary Electa Adams, of Boonville; Mrs. Clara May Junken of Southport; Alexander Foster Swickard of Indianapolis; Frank Arthur Swickard and Charles Ottis Swickard of Alfordsville. A daughter, Nora Ethel, preceded the mother in death. Brothers and sisters surviving are Frank Walls of Elnora; Mrs. Lou Brown of Seffner, FL; Mrs. Lanah Newton of Peoria, IL; and Laconius Walls of Manmough, IL. Two sisters are dead. There are 23 grandchildren and six great grandchildren surviving.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Alfordsville Christian church, burial following in the Christian cemetery. The body will remain at the Norris funeral home in Loogootee until the hour of the funeral.
