William A. Tomey

William A. Tomey, 60, 507 Southeast 5th St., died at the Daviess County Hospital at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday after being seriously ill for six days. A retired truck driver for Knox County Sand Co., Mr. Tomey was a member of the Teamsters Union and was a veteran of World War II. He was born Dec 8, 1911 in Martin county, a son of Elijah and Agnes (Mattingly) Tomey, and attended Martin county schools. In 1946, he married Virginia Shelton who survives. He leaves four daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Agnes) Berry, Mrs. William (Mary) Berry, Mrs. Larry (Betty) Holtz, all of Loogootee, and Mrs. Wayne (Violet) Ruckriegel, Jasper; one son, Charles Tomey, Washington; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Thomas (Vickie) Polley, Brownsburg, IN, and 13 grandchildren. One sister survives, Mrs. Edward (Bertha) Clark, Bedford, and one brother, James Tomey, Washington. One sister and one brother preceded him in death. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Gill Funeral Home with the Rev. R.P. Hawkins officiating and burial in Oak Grove cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday.
