James Chambers, Jr., was born in Carroll County, Ohio, May 2, 1830, a son of James and Sarah (Barrack) Chambers, and in 1844 came with his parents to De Kalb County, Ind., and settled on section 15, Wilmington Township, where he grew to manhood. He in early life learned the mason’s trade, which has been his occupation since arriving at man’s estate. He was married Oct. 12, 1851, to Sarah Griffith, daughter of Hezekiah Griffith, who settled in De Kalb County in 1850. Mr. and Mrs. Chambers have had five children, but two of whom are living---Calvin D. and Flora. A son, Walter W., died Dec. 8, 1880, in the twenty-first year of his age.
