Philander Goodrich, deceased, was born in the State of New York in 1809, a son of Zebulon and ______, Goodrich, his father of Puritan and his mother of German descent. He was reared on a farm, remaining with his parents till manhood. He was married about 1836 to Salmeda Jewett, a native of Connecticut. In the fall of 1840 they moved to Lagrange County, Ind., where his wife died in 1841. Mr. Goodrich afterward moved to Steuben County, and in 1846 to De Kalb County and settled in Smithfield Township, but in less than a year moved to Fairfield Township and bought a tract of unimproved land, which he began to improve, and on which he lived till his death in 1856.
