Houlton, farmer and stock-raiser, section 12, Franklin Township, was born on the old homestead on section 1, Oct. 4, 1851, a son of John and Nancy (Lewis) Houlton. He was reared and educated in his native township, and after reaching manhood, engaged in agricultural pursuits. He now owns forty-five acres of valuable land, with a good residence and farm buildings. He makes a specialty of stock-rising, having a good grade of cattle and hogs. Mr. Houlton was married in September, 1872, to Marietta Case, a native of Steuben County, Ind., born Sept. 25, 1855, a daughter of William L. Case. They have two children---Jink J. (named for the song, “Captain Jink’s”), born June 20, 1873, and Rinaldo R., born Nov. 7, 1874. Mr. and Mrs. Houlton are among the representative young people of De Kalb County, and are enterprising and industrious, and have the prospect of a prosperous future.
