Jewell, pastor of the Newville Christian church, was born in Washington Township, Licking County, Ohio, April 12, 1845, a son of William Jewell, not of Ottawa Lake, Mich., a native of Elizabeth City, N.J. He was reared on a farm but received a good education in the schools of Utica, Ohio, and after leaving school taught fourteen years. April 12, 1878, he was ordained a minister in the Disciples church, and has since given his time to the pastoral work of the church. He came to Newville in February, 1884, and now has charge of the churches at Newville and Coburn Corners. He is a gentleman of pleasing address, a fine orator, and a ready expounder of the doctrines of the Bible, and has many friends both in and out of church.
