Augustus S. Leas, ex-Sheriff of De Kalb County, was born in Stark County, 
Ohio. In 1852 he came with his parents to De Kalb County, Ind., where he 
married Nancy Ford, by whom he had one child---Franklin.  Mrs. Leas died, 
and he then married Electa Fay, of Bryan, Ohio, and to them were born four 
children, three of whom are living---Frederick, Nannie and Agnes.  Mrs. Leas 
died, and he was again married to Arrella Amidon (better known by the name 
of Teems.).  In early life he was a clerk in a store.  In 1878 he was 
elected to the office of Sheriff of the county, and filled the same for four 
years.  He is a Republican in politics.
