Mason, dealer in lumber, shingles, lath, etc., Butler, Ind., was born in Genesee County, N.Y., Dec.29, 1829, a son of David and Sarah (Smith) Mason, his father a native of Vermont and his mother of Elmira, N.Y., both of English descent. In 1845 his parents moved to Williams County, Ohio, and settled in Northwest Township, and Albert J. began to work in a fanning-mill factory the following spring. He worked there, one season and then began to work at the carpenter’s, and joiner’s trade, which he followed continually until 1880. He came to De Kalb County in 1856, and has built some of the best houses and business blocks in the town. He established his lumber yard in 1875, an since 1880 has given it his entire attention. Mr. Mason was married in 1853 to Harriet M. Olds. They have had four children, three of whom are living---Byron C., a traveling salesman for a Cincinnati Safe and Lock Company; Warren A., a partner with his father; and Eva, wife of David Knisely.
