Murray, of the firm Murray Brothers, millers, Spencerville, Ind., was born in Seneca County, Ohio, Nov. 7, 1839, the youngest son of James and Nancy (Herrin) Murray. Before he was a year old his father died, and he was reared by a widowed mother. When he was about fifteen years old he accompanied her to Allen County, Ind., where he lived till the fall of 1860, when he came to De Kalb County, and in company with John Zimmerman bought a saw and grist mill, which they conducted till the death of the latter, when he, with his brother Thomas, bought the interest of the heirs, and they have since carried on the business. Mr. Murray was married Jan. 30, 1873 to Maggie Langley, a native of Virginia, daughter of John and Elizabeth Langley. To them have been born two children---Mabel and Winifred. Mr. Murray is a member of Concord Lodge, No. 556, A.F.& M. His wife is a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. In politics he affiliates with the Democratic party.
