Henry Ober was born in Mifflin County, Pa., June 26, 1822, the eldest son and second child of John and Nancy (Bechtel) Ober, natives of Pennsylvania, of German descent. He remained with his parents till his marriage and then bought sixty acres of heavily timbered land in his native county, which he cleared and improved. In 1852 he moved to Stark County, Ohio, and rented land four years. He then bought eighty acres of land and made it his home till 1862, when he moved to De Kalb County and bought the farm in Richland township, now Keyser, which he still owns, and where he lived till 1879. In 1879 he bought twenty acres in Richland Township and built a fine residence, rented his farm and retired from the active scenes of agricultural life. He was married March 31, 1846, to Elizabeth Deihl, a native of Germany, who came with her parents, John and Margaret (Stilser) Deihl, to America when four years of age. Mr. and Mrs. Ober have had five children---Isaac, Margaret, John, Aaron and Nancy. The latter is deceased. Politically, Mr. Ober is a Republican.
