William Prosser was born in Erie County, Pa., Sept 12, 1802, and was there married in 1829 to Mary Lefler, who was born in Canton County, Sept. 26, 1808. Their early married life was spent in Ohio, and in 1853 they came to De Kalb County, Ind., and settled on section 10, Jackson Township. He was one of the most prominent citizens of the county, residing here till his death, May 9, 1881. His widow is still living on the old homestead with her son, Joseph C. To them were born twelve children, nine of whom went to De Kalb County with their parents---Nancy (wife of John Lawhead), Henry, Adam, William S., Joseph C., Sarah (wife of Daniel Stroh), Elizabeth (wife of John A. Provines), Maria (wife of Jacob B. Coy), and Mary, (wife of Samuel Goodwin). James came to the county in 1854 and now resides in Auburn.
