George Simon, deceased, was one of the first settlers of Perry Township, Allen County, coming here in 1836. He was a native of Pennsylvania, born about 1779, a son of Andrew Simon. His father was captured by the Indians when a boy, and was kept by them nine months. George Simon was married in Pennsylvania to Elizabeth Hewitt, and moved to Columbiana County, Ohio, where he lived till his removal to Allen County, Ind., where he entered land from the Government which he improved and made his home. He and his wife were exemplary members of the Lutheran church. He died in 1872. His wife died in 1878, aged ninty0two years. They had a family of twelve children, five of whom are living---Jonathan, Solomon, Sarah, Catherine, wife of Amos Jackson, and Rachel, wife of Jacob Myers. The deceased are David, Peter, Samuel, Elizabeth (wife of Frame Freeman), Lydia (wife of Henry Bricker), Anna (wife of Levi Zinn), and Mary Ann. Mr. Simon served six months in the War of 1812.
