George Wolfe was born in Stark County, Ohio, Sept. 9, 1921, a son of John and Elizabeth (Zahner) Wolfe, his father a native of Maryland and his mother of Pennsylvania. They were among the first settlers of Columbiana County, Ohio, where they were married. They subsequently moved to Stark County, and there spent the remainder of their lives. Nine children were born to them; all lived till maturity. George Wolfe was reared and educated in his native county, and was there married March 16, 1843, to Eliza Fisk, a native of New York. In 1847 they moved to De Kalb County, Ind., where Mrs. Wolfe died August, 1855. Two of their five children are living. He was again married Jan. 18, 1857, to Sarah Lutz, a native of Stark County, Ohio. One of their two children is living. Mr. Wolfe was a prosperous man, and accumulated a fine farm of 100 acres, valued at $75 an acre. He was a prominent and influential man in the township, and served as Justice of the Peace twenty- nine consecutive years, besides holding other local offices to trust. In politics he was a strong supporter of the Democratic principles. Mr. Wolfe died Feb. 27, 1885, at the age of sixty-three years, five months and eighteen days.
