John Yarde, Jr., was born in Devonshire, England, Nov. 17, 1836, the son of 
John and Mary (Symonds) Yarde.  His early life was spent in school, and 
before sixteen years of age he had taught seventeen months.  He came with 
his parents to De Kalb County, Ind., and assisted in clearing and improving 
his father’s farm.  He has been very successful in his business pursuits, 
and now owns 280 acres of fine land.  His residence and farm buildings are 
among the best in the county.    He was married Oct. 10, 1858, to Lydia Ann 
Houser, a native of Wayne County, Ohio, born Jul 22, 1840, a daughter of 
David and Rebecca Houser.  They have six children---Martha K., Frank, David, 
Nettie, Henry and Bertha.
