Jerry Wayne Lamkin, Sr., age 73, of Jasper, Indiana, formerly of Huntingburg, died at 7:20 p.m., Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born September 6, 1937 in Huntingburg to Merle and Lula (King) Lamkin. Mr. Lamkin retired as a Staff Sergeant after 20 years with the United States Air Force. During part of his tenure in the military he served overseas in the Vietnam War. He also worked for Styline before and after his military service. He was a member of the Huntingburg Fraternal Order of Eagles where he served as past president from 1995-96, was a former Cub Scout Leader of Pack #184, and was devoted to his loving dog, “Dino”. He was preceded in death by: one brother, Tom Lamkin.

He is survived by:
His companion of 32 years, Anonia Blessinger – Jasper, IN,
Two sons, Jerry W. Lamkin, Jr. – Jasper, IN, Randy Blessinger – Louisville, Kentucky,
(one) grandson and (two) granddaughters.

Funeral services for Jerry Lamkin, Sr. will be held at 10:00 a.m., Eastern Daylight Time, on Thursday, September 8th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg. Burial will take place in a National Veterans Cemetery with military graveside rites. (Editors: the specific V.A. cemetery is pending.)

Sherman A. Stuckey, Jr., age 81, of Huntingburg, Indiana passed away at 3:28 a.m., Monday, August 29, 2011 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born December 17, 1929 in Loogootee, Indiana to Sherman Stuckey, Sr. and Mary M. (Holt) Stuckey. He was united in marriage to Florence L. Wendling on September 9, 1950.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Stuckey retired from the Daviess Martin County R.T.C. as a telephone lineman and serviceman.

He was a member of: St. Mary’s Catholic Church; the Fraternal Order of Eagles; and the V.FW. Post #2366 where he served as a former post commander.

He was preceded in death by: his wife, Florence L. Stuckey, who died September 27, 2002; one daughter, Merci Thomas; and one sister, Mary LaMar.

He is survived by:

Anna J. Uppencamp, of Dale, Indiana, formerly of Huntingburg, died at 3:48 p.m., Sunday, September 25, 2011 in the emergency room of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

She was born April 25, 1935 in Huntingburg to Avolt and Ethel (Kendall) Ermert. She was a homemaker and a Certified Nursing Assistant. Anna was preceded in death by: her husband, Henry Uppencamp, who died March 10, 1999; her parents, Avolt Ermert and Ethel Hall; one daughter, Joyce Uppencamp; one son, Phillip Uppencamp; two sisters, Irene Heowener and Minnie Beadles; and one brother, William Ermert.

She is survived by

Carl C. “Junie” Giesler Jr. age 77 of Jasper passed away at 11:48 p.m. Thursday at his home of cancer.

He was born in Jasper to Carl J. “Bun” and Wilma (Brown) Giesler. He married Linda Vogler on October 26, 1957 in Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper.

Junie owned and operated Giesler’s Tavern for 39 years on Jasper’s north side.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Jasper Knights of Columbus, Jasper Outdoor Recreation and friends of Cabby O’Neill gymnasium. He was a lifelong resident of Jasper and graduated from Jasper High School Class of 1952.

Junie was a great story teller and avid sports fan.

Phillip Ray Bush, age 64, of Velpen, Indiana, passed away at 4:10 a.m., Thursday, September 22, 2011 at his residence.

He was born May 4, 1947 in Huntingburg, Indiana to Eugene and Pansy (Eads) Bush. He was united in marriage to Shirley Jones on December 21, 1968 at the Cup Creek General Baptist Church. He was a retired construction worker and worked for 17 years at Memorial Hospital in Jasper as a carpenter. He was a member of Laborers Union #561 and served in the United States Army National Guard. He was preceded in death by: one daughter, Sherry Rae Bush; and one brother, Jerry Bush.

Margaret Marie Bufkin, age 86, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 8:25 a.m., Friday, September 23, 2011 at The Waters of Huntingburg nursing center in Huntingburg.

She was born December 21, 1924 in Huntingburg to Louis and Theresa (Renner) Reckelhoff. She was united in marriage to Robert J. Bufkin on February 9, 1946 in Evansville. Margaret worked at both General Electric and Office Furniture Styline. She was a member of the V.F.W. Post #2366 Auxiliary and the Fraternal Order of Eagles; volunteered at the Christian Ministries Food Bank in Huntingburg; and enjoyed playing cards with her friends. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Robert J. Bufkin, who died on September 11, 1995; and three brothers – William, James, and Paul Reckelhoff.

Beatrice Krodel, age 91 of Jasper passed away at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday (September 21, 2011) in Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center in Jasper.

She was born in Dubois County March 11, 1920 to George F. and Cordelia (Weisheit) Hautsch. She married Philmore Krodel on October 24, 1939, he preceded her in death on March 28, 1955.

Beatrice retired from the Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper where she had worked for 25 years.

She is a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and WELCA of St. Paul’s Church.

Bryan W. Reckelhoff, age 34 of St. Anthony, Indiana passed away at 11:00 a .m. Monday (September 19, 2011) at his home.

He was born on May 12, 1977 in Huntingburg to Thomas R. and Rebecca (Holst) Reckelhoff.

Bryan was a member of Forest Park High School Class of 1999.

He was a honorary member of the St. Anthony Fire Department.

Clarissa Geneva Allen, age 84 of St. Anthony, Indiana passed away on Sunday (September 18, 2011) in the Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper.

She was born at St. Anthony, Indiana on February 20, 1927 to Orville and Mary (Miller) Deinderfer. She married Elmer J. Allen on October 4, 1947 in St. Benedicts Catholic Church in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Clarissa worked and help operate the Allen’s Family Restaurant in Huntingburg, Indiana for over 20 years..

She is a member of St. Anthony Padua Catholic Church in St. Anthony for over 55 years. – Christian Mothers Society and (CRHP) Christ Renews His Parish and (RCIA) Rite of Christian initiation Of Adults. She was a former member of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper.

Clarissa was an avid bible reader and prayer warrior and was a blessing to all who knew her.

Norman E. Bell age 81 passed away at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday (September 13, 2011) in The Waters of Jasper.

He was born on September 4, 1930 in Jackson, Michigan to Lynford and Thelma (Trombley) Bell. He had two marriages; 1st marriage to Elaine (Schnorberger) who preceded him in death on November 4, 1995. 2nd marriage to Patricia Tobitt on July 2, 1998.

Norman Bell a U.S. Air Force Veteran had operatored a Truck Line out of Indianapolis, Indiana that covered several states. He also was active in local politics in Monroe, Michigan.

He was a proud alumina of Monroe Catholic Central High School in Monroe, Michigan. He was a past member of the Monroe Jaycee’s.

Etta “Lou” Bair, age 82 of Dubois, Indiana passed away at 3:50 p.m. Sunday, (September 11, 2011) in the Northwood Retirement Community Center in Jasper.

She was born April 20, 1929 in Cuzco to Clyde and Alice (Conrad) Nicholson. She married Oscar Bair October 23, 1948 in Crystal Community Church.

She was a homemaker and member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Dubois and the Cuzco High School Class of 1947.

She enjoyed her membership in the Musical Bell’s of Dubois , Volunteer work in her church and reading.

Ardella Lydia Freyberger, age 81 of Dubois passed away at 6:07 a.m. Sunday (September 11, 2011) in Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center in Jasper.

She was born in Holland, Indiana on November 26, 1929 to Edwin and Louise (Prior) Nussmeyer. She married Amos W. Freyberger on August 22, 1950; he preceded her in death on August 3, 2003.

Ardella was a homemaker and member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville.

She enjoying baking , sewing and family.

Jacqueline Mary Tanner, age 66 passed away at 7:20 a.m. Thursday (September 1, 2011) at her home in Jasper.

She was born in Manchester England to Charles and Muriel (Wood) Schnellenberger.

She married Terry L. Tanner on July 11, 1964 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg, Indiana.

Jackie was an Instructional Aide at 5th Street elementary School in Jasper for many years also was a Matron at the Dubois County Security Center in Jasper.

She is a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where she was in the choir and also a Lector and Eucharistic Minister and CRHP – Daughters of Isabella -St. Anne’s Society – St. Vincent’s DePaul Society – Dubois County Leukemia Society – Indiana Sheriff Association and the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.

Eugene “Gene” Gadlage, age 74 of Jasper passed away at 1:45 p.m. Monday (September 5, 2011) in Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born in Louisville, Kentucky on November 5, 1936 to Herman and Anna Hoffman Gadlage. He married Margaret (Marge) Rowekamp on August 30,1958 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

Gene was a U.S. Navy Veteran and had worked for Jasper Chamber of Commerce and was a truck driver for Jack Newton Gulf Oil Company.

He retired from Sten’s Corporation in Jasper and also worked at St. Vincent’s DePaul Society in Jasper.

He is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church – Jasper High School Class of 1954 – – American Legion Post # 147 and the Schnellville Conservation Club.

Thomas E. Wright, age 73, of Birdseye, Indiana, passed away at 7:53 p.m., Sunday, September 4, 2011 in the emergency room of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born May 22, 1938 in Crawford County, Indiana to Lloyd and Eithel (Underhill) Wright. Tom was a retired truck driver. He was preceded in death by: one son, Tim Wright; and one sister, Rosalee Allen.

Mary Alice Griffin, age 96 of Selvin, Indiana, passed away at 3:45 a.m., Saturday, September 3, 2011 at the Professional Care Rehabilitation Center in Dale.

She was born November 24, 1914 to Florence (Eddings) DeHaven in Blackford, Kentucky (Editors: father’s name is not listed). She was united in marriage to Ranzy “Dutch” Griffin on June 10, 1935 in Boonville, Indiana. Mary had worked as a cook at the old Selvin School, owned and operated the Selvin General Store, and was a gatekeeper at Yellow Banks Camp Ground. She was a member of the Blackford Baptist Church and was an avid quilter. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Ranzy “Dutch” Griffin, who died April 10, 1999; four brothers – Glen, Robert, William, and Major DeHaven; and one sister, Allene Greer.

She is survived by:

Darrin Streete, age 44 of Jasper, Indiana passed away on Saturday at his home.

He was born in Jasper, Indiana on October 26, 1966 to Charles and Margaret (Schuetter) Streete.

Darrin had worked for the Master Brands Manufacturing and had been disabled for the past several years.

Timothy P. Dalton , age 72 of Jasper passed away at 4:15 a.m. Sunday (September 4, 2011) in Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born on December 4, 1938 in Hammond, Indiana to Maurice and Susan (DeVroe) Dalton. He married Patricia Smith June 1963.

He is a U.S. Navy Veteran and had worked for the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad, he retired as mechanic where he worked on large machinery.

He is a member of St. St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Tim loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting, playing poker and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Emma Grace Case, age 88, of Huntingburg, passed away at 11:40 p.m., Friday, November 4, 2011 at The Waters of Huntingburg nursing center.

She was born February 8, 1923 in Rogers County, Oklahoma to James and Myrtle (Thomas) Swartsfager. She was united in marriage to Robert L. Case on August 29, 1950 in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Mrs. Case was a retired secretary, a member of Central Christian Church in Huntingburg and loved to sew. She was preceded in death by: one son, Patrick Kent Case; two sisters, Anna L. Bodle and Ethel Boyles; and three brothers – Frank, James and Billy Swartsfager.

Clayton Henry “Pete” Peters, age 88, of Holland, Indiana, passed away at 2:11 p.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born August 5, 1923 in Huntingburg, Indiana to Arthur and Ethel (Ruttkar) Peters. He was united in marriage to Doris Schroeder on August 22, 1948. Clayton worked at the Holland Dairy for 44 years. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ where he served several terms on the church council, sang in the choir, served as church janitor several times, and was always willing to help out when able. He especially enjoyed playing on the Church’s softball team, until he wasn’t able to recuperate from one game to the next!

During the 1960’s-70’s he served for 10 years as Chief of the Holland Volunteer Fire Department. He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II and was stationed in Germany for a year. He loved traveling, gardening, woodworking, and sports. He was able to watch the cardinals win the World Series from his hospital bed.

Clayton was preceded in death by: his parents; one brother, Donald Peters; one sister, Luella (Peters) Hemmer; and one grandson, Christopher Bische.

Elayne J. Schneider, age 61, of Birdseye, Indiana, passed away Sunday evening, October 30, 2011 at her residence.

She was born May 19, 1950 in Huntingburg, Indiana to Everett Burns “George” and Opal Fay (Albin) Oxley. She was united in marriage to Allen J. Schneider on September 1, 1973 at the St. Anthony Catholic Church. Elayne was employed as the office administrator for Edward Jones in Huntingburg. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Allen J. Schneider, who died December 11, 1988; and both her parents.

Daniel W. Schnarr, age 81 of Boone Township passed away at 10:56 p.m. Saturday (October 29, 2011) in Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born November 7, 1929 in Boone Township to Edgar and Catherine (Meyer) Schnarr. He married Wilma Wening on October 20, 1955 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville.

Daniel was a Army Korean Veteran and a retired Hog Farmer in Boone Township. After retirement he worked for CarQuest and Toy’s Auto in Jasper.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Boone Township where he held several offices and a Lifetime member of V.F.W. Post # 673 in Jasper . He was also a member of the Pork Producers.

He was a 4- H Leader for 18 years, and served on the Dubois County 4-H Council. He also served as Vice President of the Dubois County Farm Bureau.

Kenny Howe, age 69, of Birdseye, IN died on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center, Jasper, IN.

Kenneth was born on December 1, 1941 in Crawford County to Lloyd and Maggie (Mitchell) Howe. He married Virlee M. Kerstiens on November 6, 1965 in St. Meinrad, IN. He was a veteran of the United States Army; a retired construction worker, a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Schnellville and the Birdseye Conservation Club. He enjoyed restoring classic cars, Corydon Jamboree and spending time with family and friends. Charlene Ann (Shoaf) Belamour, age 62, of Holland, Indiana, died at 10:35 a.m., Friday, October 21, 2011 at her residence.

In 2007 she graduated with an Associate in Science degree from Vincennes University with Dean’s list honors. Helen Hopster, age 93 of Jasper passed away at 10:35 p.m. Friday (October 21, 2011) in Brookside Village in Jasper.

She was born in Celestine, Indiana on November 1, 1917 to Martin and Amelia (Kaiser) Schneider. She married Robert F. Hopster June 21, 1941. He preceded her in death on November 17, 1980.

Helen was a homemaker and member of St. Celestine Catholic Church and the St. Ann’s Society.

She enjoyed quilting and gardening and her flower garden.

Aurelia Heim, age 96 of Jasper passed away at 5:10 p.m. Friday (October 21, 2011) in the Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper.

She was born in Jasper July 18, 1915 to John and Mary (Eckerle) Lampert. She married Anthony A. Heim on September 5, 1940 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He preceded her in death on November 14, 1988.

Aurelia was a homemaker and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper and the St. Ann’s Society and the Daughters of Isabella.

Aurelia had formerly worked for many years at the Jasper Glove Factory.

Her hobbies were playing cards and quilting.

Rev. Raymond Ley, age 94, of Huntingburg, passed away at 5:57 p.m., Thursday, October 20, 2011 at The Waters of Huntingburg.

Raymond Ley, son of Rev. Herman and Ella (Vitz) Ley, was born September 18, 1917 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and was raised in St. Bernard, outside of Cincinnati, Ohio. He graduated from Lakeland Collage in 1939, received a Master’s Degree in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin in 1940 and graduated from McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago, in 1944. He married Margaret Kuentzel, also a graduate of Lakeland, in October of 1942.

Raymond began his ministry in Chicago in 1942 where he became Associate Pastor of St. Peters Evangelical Church. In 1949 he moved to Milwaukee where he served Zion U.C.C. for 25 years. Both of these churches involved one congregation worshipping at two locations several miles apart.

In 1974 he moved to Boonville, Indiana where he served for ten years, retiring in 1984. He was then called to serve as part-time Associate Pastor at Salem U.C.C. in Huntingburg. He remained there for 12 years, retiring in 1996 after 54 years in the ministry.

In 2003 he was named Pastor Emeritus of Salem, which also recognized his 61 years of continuing ministry. He also served as part-time Chaplain at The Waters of Huntingburg until entering its assisted living facility in early 2006.

The first 32 years of his ministry were carried out in urban and inner city churches. He served and helped organize a number of unique inner city ministries and organizations. He served 15 years on the Board of Directors of the Southeastern Wisconsin Association U.C.C., 21 years on the Board of Directors at Deaconess Hospital, Milwaukee, and 6 years on the board of Good Samaritan Home, Evansville. He also served on the Church Relations Committee of the Deaconess Hospital Foundation Board in Evansville. During the last 3 years of his active ministry, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Indiana-Kentucky Conference of the United Church of Christ.

During his time in Indiana he was very active in working with the aging. He served 6 years on the State Advisory Committee on the Aged and Aging, 10 years on the Board of Directors of the Southwest Indiana Regional Council on Aging, and many years on the Board of Directors of Generations, the agency for aging in this six-county area. He also served on the Board of the Dubois County A.A.R.P., and the County Council on Aging. Raymond was an active member of the Kawanis Club for over 50 years and received numerous awards for his outstanding civic and religious volunteerism.

He is survived by:

Three children – Janet Ley Schnabel of Cathlamet, Washington, Dorothy Ley of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and David Ley of New Canaan, Connecticut

One brother and one sister – Rev. Calvin Ley of Yorktown, Indiana, and Dorothea Evans of Palo Alto, California

Six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Raymond was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Ley, who died July 31, 1990; one son, Thomas Ley; and two brothers – Dr. Ralph Ley and Rev. Harold Ley.

Harold “Buddy” Frick, age 86, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 9:45 p.m. on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at his residence.

He was born December 29, 1924 in Huntingburg to Harold and Leota (Helmerich) Frick. He was united in marriage to Frances Fleck on January 28, 1947 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper. Buddy was a retired Teamster’s truck driver and served as Dubois County Assessor for 8 years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Woodmen of the World. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.

He was preceded in death by: one son, Buddy Frick, Jr.; two daughters, Mary Frick Buechler and Kathy Frick; three brothers – Arthur “Sonny” Frick, Wallace Frick and Jacob “Juny” Frick; three sisters – Glenda Leibering, Helen Stobbe and Waneta Wininger; and one grandchild.

Arthur Lee Wright, age 80, of Huntingburg, Indiana, passed away at 9:15 a.m., Monday, October 10, 2011 at his residence.

Lee was born October 24, 1930 in Lyons, Indiana to Arthur Thomas and Thelma (Wells) Wright. He was united in marriage to Estella Frances Huser on November 17, 1950 in Lyons, Indiana. He was a retired heavy equipment operator. He ran a truck crane for the Olinger Construction Company for many years.

Stella L. Hawkins, age 82, of Birdseye, Indiana, passed away at 7:00 a.m., Sunday, October 9, 2011 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

She was born July 3, 1929 in Eckerty, Indiana to George and Celia (Jellison) Wright. Stella was a homemaker and a member of the Birdseye Christian Church. She was preceded in death by: her husband, John J. Hawkins, who died November 17, 1995; two daughters, Carol L. Daum and Thelma Hale; five sisters – Maggie Hackman, Hazel Conrad, Agnes McKim, Violet Tomes and June Smitley; four brothers – Clarence, Lloyd, Murl and Lee William Wright; two grandsons; and one great granddaughter.

She is survived by:

Louis Jacob Eichmiller, age 71 of Jasper, passed away at 7:58 a.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2011, in Brookside Village in Jasper. He was married to Virginia (Wilson) Eichmiller from 1963-1994.

He was born in Harbison Township, Dubois, on November 7, 1939, to Herman and Pauline (Breitwieser) Eichmiller.

Surviving are two sons, Michael Louis Eichmiller and his wife, Victoria, Fort Branch and Andrew Louis Eichmiller and his wife, Courtney Schmidt, Lafayette; his mother Pauline Eichmiller, Dubois; one brother, Harold Eichmiller, Shoals; three sisters, Mrs. David (Wanda) Smith, Loogootee, Mrs. Larry (Lou Ann Gutgsell), St. Anthony, Mrs. John (Dolores Esmeier), Daytona, Florida; and two grandchildren, Caroline Grace and Christian Michael Eichmiller, Ft. Branch.

He was preceded in death by an infant grandchild, Hannah Elizabeth Eichmiller; his father, Herman Eichmiller; a sister, Anita Bauer; and two infant brothers, James and Gary.

Mr. Eichmiller was a skilled carpenter and owned and operated Eichmiller Construction Company in Jasper for many years. He was a member of the National Guard unit in Jasper for six years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at the Dubois Crossroads. He had served on the church councils at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Loogootee and at St. John’s Lutheran Church at the Dubois Crossroads. He was a member of the Builders Association of Dubois County, Dubois Community Club, Jasper Outdoor Recreation Club, Huntingburg Order of Eagles, and the Jasper Moose Lodge.

Funeral services for Louis J. Eichmiller will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, October 9, 2011, in St. John’s Lutheran Church at the Dubois Crossroads with burial to follow in St. John’s Cemetery. The Rev. Mary Poston and Rev. William Andrews will officiate.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Saturday. October 8, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper and one hour before the services at the church.

Jasper Moose Lodge #1175 will hold a memorial services at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Edison St. Clair, age 76, of Birdseye, Indiana, passed away at 9:38 a.m., Monday, October 3, 2011 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born August 21, 1935 in Crawford County, Indiana to Torence and Maudie (Walls) St. Clair. Edison was a retired mechanic and enjoyed riding motorcycles. He was preceded in death by: three sisters – Wilma Knight, Violet Walker, and Freida St. Clair who died in infancy.

He is survived by:

Two sons and two daughter-in-laws,  Terry (spouse: Cathy) St. Clair – Birdseye, IN,  Robbie (spouse: Karen) St. Clair – Birdseye, IN

Two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Edison St. Clair will be held at 2:00 p.m., Eastern Daylight Time, on Wednesday, October 5th at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Bethany Union Cemetery in Eckerty. The Rev. Albert Madden will officiate the services.

Genevieve C. Otto, age 84 of Jasper passed away at 3:00 a.m. Wednesday (September 28, 2011) at the home of her daughter .

She was born at Dubois, Indiana November 6, 1926 to Ben and Anna (Nonte) Kempf. She married Arnold L. Otto on November 23, 1948 in St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Dubois, he preceded her in death on January 14, 2006.

Gennie retired from Wilsons Flowers in Jasper where she had worked for many years.

She is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church – St. Ann’s Society.

She enjoyed making ribbon bows, embroidery and flowers and spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Roberta Jean “Bobbie” Merritt, 65, Jasper, formerly of Evansville, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2016, in Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

She was born in Evansville on July 31, 1950, to Thomas and Mary Katherine (Duncan) Voyles Sr. Her husband, Robert Merritt, passed away in 2007.

Surviving are two sons, David (Misty Huff) Hanes Jr. and Billy Somers; a daughter, Tina (Peter Allie) Somers; a sister Mary (Rick) Biggs; a brother, David (Brenda) Voyles; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson.

The funeral will be at noon CDT Saturday at Alexander West Chapel in Evansville. Private burial will be Monday in Park Lawn Cemetery in Evansville.

Mitchell Kristian Woolsey, 26, Huntingburg, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at his residence.

He was born February 25, 1990 in Bloomington, Indiana to Max K. Woolsey and Theresa (Thyen) Woolsey.

Mitchell graduated from Carmel High School in 2008. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg and enjoyed cooking and grilling, playing euchre, fishing and working on cars.

Mitchell is survived by his mother and stepfather, Theresa (Darrin) Gogel of Huntingburg; his father and stepmother, Max K. (Tammy) Woolsey of Fairhope, Ala.; his maternal grandmother, Violet Thyen of Huntingburg; two brothers, Quinton Gogel of Huntingburg and Brandon Myers of Greenwood, Ind.; two sisters, Angela Chernika of Fairhope, Ala. and Kristina Padgett of Fairhope, Ala.; by aunts, uncles and cousins.

Augusta H. Wagner, 91, Jasper, passed away at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper.

Augusta was born on March 20, 1925 in Jasper, Indiana to Frank and Cecelia (Bockelman) Eckerle. She married Victor J. Wagner on June 7, 1947 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He preceded her in death on October 20, 2011.

Augusta was a 1943 graduate of Jasper High School. She was a homemaker and worked for the Dubois County Courthouse, Corbin’s. She also worked for 27 years for Memorial Hospital in Jasper until her retirement in 1992. She was also an election official for 50 years.

After retirement she volunteered for Fifth Street and Holy Family Schools and served as a caregiver to relatives and friends for many years.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, where she served on the Parish Council and was a Eucharistic Minister to the homebound. She was active in the Christ Renews His Parish Ministry and the Cursillo Movement. She was a member of the St. Joseph St. Ann’s Society, and a member of the Jasper Circle of the Daughters of Isabella.

She is survived by six daughters, Sarah Zoglman and husband Ed of Jasper, Susan Habig and husband Steve of Jasper, Marlene Schwartz and husband Craig of Ellettsville, Ind., Elaine Schitter and husband Jerry of Jasper Vicki O’Brien and husband Kenneth, Italy and Kristine Gross and husband Spencer of Hope, Ind.; three sons, Howard Wagner and wife Sharon of Dubois, Dr. Luke Wagner and wife Mary of Newburgh and Dr. John Wagner and wife Dr. Cathy Wagner of Indianapolis; 30 grandchildren;  27 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Dudine of Indianapolis.

Preceding her in death beside her husband were three grandchildren, Caroline O’ Brien, Angie Beck, and Jobe Zoglman; two sisters, Pearl Lorey and Francie Dischinger; and five brothers, Leonard, Alphonse, Harold, Carl and Eddie Eckerle.

Romilda E. Goepferich, 88, St. Meinrad, passed away Friday, April 22, 2016, at her home.

She was born in Ferdinand in Oct. 10, 1927, to Herman E. and Mary E. (Gehlhausen) Petry. She married Hubert Goepferich Jr. on June 24, 1947, in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand. He preceded her in death July 2, 2015.

Mrs. Goepferich enjoyed flowers, going out to eat, shopping, family time and country music. She enjoyed playing the guitar and harmonica and was an avid doll collector.

Surviving are three daughters, Elaine (Richard) Begle of Dale, Susan (John) Vaal of St. Meinrad and Janet (Hilbert) Mullen of Ferdinand; a son, Hubert Jr. (Charlene) Goepferich of Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother, Norbert Petry of Peru; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin and Ervin Petry, and two sisters, Mildred Petry and Doretha Jochem.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.

Sister Ida Otto, 73, of Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, died at 7:25 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Memorial Hospital in Jasper.

Sister Ida was born April 10, 1943, in Evansville, the third of six children of Raymond and Veronica (Fuhs) Otto. She entered the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand in 1962 and made her profession of monastic vows in 1964. She celebrated the 50th anniversary of her monastic profession in 2014.

She is survived by nieces, nephews, and members of her religious community. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers Danny, Ted, Fr. Ray, David, and John.

Sister Ida was a preschool teacher at Precious Blood School in Jasper, St. Vincent’s Day Care Center in Evansville, St. Bernard’s Early Childhood Learning Center in Rockport, and Williams Air Force Base in Mesa, Arizona. She served in parish ministry in Apache Junction, Arizona and did missionary work in Peru. She worked in the monastery kitchen and cared for her elderly parents. She most recently served in supportive services at the monastery.

Visitation will be at the monastery on Tuesday, April 26, from 2 to 6:45 p.m. EDT and on Wednesday, April 27 from 2 to 3:45 p.m. A wake service will be held on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. in the monastery church followed by burial in the monastery cemetery.

Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand is in charge of the arrangements.

Thomas Charles Hall, 45, Huntingburg, died in a vehicle accident Wednesday, April 20, 2016, on I-64 in Warrick County.

He was born in Sullivan on Sept. 13, 1970, to Ruth and Earl Dewey Hall Sr.

Surviving are a son, Jacob Hall; a daughter, Dominique Hall; his mother, Ruth Hall of Huntingburg; two sisters, Debbie Parker and Brenda McKinney; and two brothers, Earl Jr. and Randy Hall.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Jeffrey Hall.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. CDT Sunday at Koehler Funeral Home in Boonville.

Jill Durcholz, 37, Huntingburg, passed away at 5:35 a.m. on Monday, April 18, 2016, at I.U. Health University Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was born April 29, 1978, in Huntingburg, Indiana to Gary L. and Kim E. (Hoing) Beadles.  She married Mark Durcholz on October 14, 2012, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Jill was a registered nurse and formerly worked at Memorial Hospital in Jasper and The Waters of Huntingburg. Although Jill’s life was cut short, she chose to become an organ donor in hopes of enriching and prolonging the life of someone else.

Jill was preceded in death by her mother, Kim E. Beadles, who passed away January 25, 2014.

She is survived by her husband, Mark Durcholz of Huntingburg; her father, Gary L. Beadles of Huntingburg; one brother and sister-in-law, Brad (Astrid) Beadles of Cedar City, Utah.

A public visitation and celebration of Jill’s life will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2016, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg.



Alberta M. Harris, 98, passed away at 1:42 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2016, in Huntingburg.

She was born May 24, 1917, in Jasper, Indiana to Clem and Carrie (Seng) Fischer. She married Glenn F. Harris on September 16, 1933, in Petersburg.

Alberta worked for Swift’s, Kesling’s Drug Store where she was known as “Grannie Bert”, and at several other local businesses. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the V.F.W. Post #2366 Auxiliary, and was a fifty-year member of the Women of the Moose Chapter #955.

Alberta enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino, and being with friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn F. Harris, who died October 29, 1984; two sons, Steve Harris and Jack Harris; one daughter, Glenda Turpin; two brothers, Andrew Fischer and Edward Fischer; and two sisters, Marie Schneider and Clara Striegel.

She is survived by one son, Jim (Dolly) Harris of Huntingburg; two daughters, Shirley Satkamp of Ireland and Carolyn (Russ) Klee of Jasper; by 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Lucille M. Kuebler, 90, Jasper, passed away at 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2016 at home.

Lucille was born on January 14, 1926 in Ireland, Indiana to Othmar and Margaret (Weidenbenner) Miller.  She married Raymond Kuebler on October 10, 1944.  He preceded her in death on September 20, 2004.

Lucille worked at General Electric in Huntingburg, and then retired after 35 years (1954-1989) of dedicated service as a school custodian at Jasper High School. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, the Jasper D of I, St. Ann’s Society, the Singing Seniors and a former member of the Patoka Valley Quilt Club. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and fishing.

She is survived by three daughters, Janet Kuebler and her companion Bill McGinnis of Noblesville, Ruth Kuebler of Jasper and Doris Kuebler-Fox and her husband Chuck of Punta Gorda, Fla.; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence Miller of Ireland.

Preceding her in death are one son, Paul Kuebler; five sisters, Helen Sander, Bernice Young, Loretta Hurley,  Mildred Goodman and Anna Frances Miller; and three brothers, Edward, Raymond and Sylvester Miller.

Elizabeth Clare “Betty” Keller, 90, Louisville, passed away at 11 a.m. Friday, April 15, 2016 in Louisville.

She was born in Jasper on June 16, 1925, to Sylvester and Minnie Berger. She married Dennis Keller on Feb. 12, 1947. He preceded her in death.

 Mrs. Keller was a graduate of Jasper High School and served as deputy clerk of Dubois County. She retired in 1990 after 21 years in the payroll tax department for the City of Owensboro. She enjoyed reading, gardening and quilting. She quilted more than 60 quilts and donated them to her former parish, Blessed Mother Catholic Church in Owensboro, Ky., where she also volunteered as an office assistant. She then became a member of the Church of the Epiphany in Louisville.

Surviving are six daughters, Beverly (Ron) Thurmond, Margaret (Rich) Bowen, Ann (Todd) Bailey, Charlotte (Ron) Kieffner, Kathleen (Bruce) Sauer and Denise Ritter; a son, Tony (Julie) Keller; a brother, Billie Berger of Muncie; a sister, Margaret Holler of Terre Haute; 12 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Odilo, Tony and James Berger, and three sisters, Helen Bath, Anna Marie Otto and Mary Catherine Gilliam.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Church of the Epiphany Catholic Church, 914 Old Harrods Creek Road, Louisville, Ky. Private burial will follow.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Ky. A rosary service will be held at 4 p.m.

Judith A. Pund, 59, Ferdinand, died Sunday, April 17, 2016, at her home.

She was born in Huntingburg on April 11, 1957, to Wilfred and Bernice (Laake) Weyer.

Mrs. Pund was the administrator at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper for 10 years and was previously the director of nursing for 20 years. She served on several boards of directors, including the State of Indiana Council on Aging, Jasper Chamber Of Commerce, board at St. Benedict Monastery and The National Organization Board of Good Samaritan. She was a member of St. Ferdinand Parish.

Surviving are her husband, Eric Pund; three sons, Brett (Allison) Pund of Jasper and Matt (Emily) Pund and Andy Pund, both of Ferdinand; a daughter, Laura Pund of Ferdinand; her mother, Bernice Pund of Ferdinand; a sister, Ruth (Howard) Lasher of Haubstadt; and three brothers, Kurt (Brenda) Weyer, Chris (Donna) Weyer and Glenn (Marcy) Weyer, all of Ferdinand.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Monastery of Immaculate Conception Chapel in Ferdinand. Burial will be in St. Ferdinand Church Cemetery in Ferdinand at a later date.

There will be no visitation.

Charles A. Keller, Sr., 75, of Otwell, passed away at 11:45 p.m., on Saturday, April 16, 2016, in Huntingburg.

He was born October 5, 1940, in Jasper, Indiana to Alvin and Anna (Reiker) Keller.

Charles worked as a house mover and retired as a foreman for Buchta Leasing, Inc.’s House Movers division in Otwell, Indiana. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland and the Otwell “Circle A Gossip Center”.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis R. (Milner) Keller, who passed away March 9, 2006; one sister, Rita Cooper; and four brothers, Robert, John, Richard and Donald Keller.

He is survived by three daughters and two son-in-laws, Shelly (Greg) Garrison of Vincennes, Mrs. Tina (Joe) Byrd of Huntingburg and Lisa Harker of Mount Carmel, Ill.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Charles (Renaee) Keller, Jr. of Loogootee and Jamie (fiancé: Tenille Fitch) Keller of Otwell; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Jenny Butler of Jasper, Mrs. Rosie (David) Peters of Ferdinand and Vera Price of Greenfield, Ind.; 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Martha A. Hochgesang, 67, of Jasper, passed away at 11:32 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2016, at Cathedral Health Care Center in Jasper.

Martha was born in Washington, Indiana, on August 6, 1948 to Martin J. and Louise (Bachman) Hochgesang.

She was a waitress in Los Angeles, California for 30 years and then after moving to Jasper, she worked at Denny’s Restaurant until retirement.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper.

She enjoyed writing poetry.

She is survived by two sisters, Emma Noffsinger and her husband Tom of Cornelia, Ga. and Monica Hochgesang-Roi of Chandler; three brothers, Larry Hochgesang of Jasper, Mike Hochgesang and his wife Pat of Jasper and Kenny Hochgesang of Jasper; several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are one sister, Mary Rodriguez; and one brother, Charles Hochgesang.

Kenneth Scott Gauker, 43, of Jasper, passed away at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at home.

Kenneth was born on April 7, 1973 in New Castle, Indiana, to Melvin and Donna (Mohler) Gauker.

He was a self-employed contractor.

He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, and sports.

He is survived by one daughter, Karley Gauke of Indianapolis; two brothers, Bud Gauker and his wife Penny of New Castle and Jim Gauker and his wife Stephanie of Jasper; several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Melvin and Donna Gauker, and one sister, Sheila DeWitt.

Private services were held at Becher-Kluesner Funeral Home in Jasper, Indiana.



Charles L. Kieffner, 87, of Jasper, passed away at 12:27 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

Charlie was born in Jasper, Indiana, on October 6, 1928 to George and Hilda (Popp) Kieffner. He married Thelma “Dolly” Leonard on September 5, 1953 in Aberdeen Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, Maryland.

He was a member of the Jasper High School Class of 1946. Charlie was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Siebert’s Clothing Store in Jasper, where he had worked for over 40 years.

He and his wife, Dolly, were charter members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jasper.

Charlie was a member of the Jasper Moose, American Legion Post #147 in Jasper and a past member of the Masons.

He is survived by his wife, Dolly Kieffner of Jasper; two sons, Steven Kieffner and his wife Sara of Edgewood, Ky. and Scott Kieffner and his wife Rebecca of Bloomington; four grandchildren, Brittany and Benten Kieffner and Chelsea and Chasen Kieffner; three great grandchildren, Keaton and Keeley Bagbey and Londyn Smith-Kieffner; one brother, Larry Kieffner and his wife Carol of Huntingburg.

Funeral services for Charles L. Kieffner will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jasper, with burial to follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery in Haysville, Indiana. The American Legion Post #147 will conduct military gravesite rights.

Charles E. Schneider, 75, Dubois, Indiana passed away at 1:35 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2016, in Cathedral Health Care in Jasper.

He was born in Huntingburg, Indiana on December 2, 1940, to to Robert and Leona (Marks) Schneider. He married Georgia Lea Ziegler on May 20, 1951.

Charlie was self employed construction contractor and home builder.

He was a member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Dubois, Bricklayers Union, Dubois JC’s and Dubois Softball League.

He enjoyed NASCAR and was an avid card player ,

He is survived by his wife, Georgia Lea “Sis” Schneider; daughter, Misty Bohnert and husband Jason of Jasper; three sons, Greg Schneider wife Pam of Jasper, Ed Schneider and wife Sharla of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Dave Schneider and wife Danielle of Jasper; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Tom Schneider and wife Diane of Jasper and Rich Schneider and wife Norma of Zionsville; one sister, Bonnie Sergesketter of Jasper.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Melissa Elizabeth Schneider.

Alma Evangeline Doolittle, 76, of Huntingburg, passed away at 4:15 p.m., on Monday, April 11, 2016, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper.

She was born April 2, 1940, in Huntingburg, Indiana to Walter and Doris (Painter) Fischer.  She married Robert J. Doolittle on May 24, 1959, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Alma was a veteran of the United States Air Force and worked as a licensed practical nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital and The Waters of Huntingburg nursing center. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg; Huntingburg V.F.W. Auxiliary; Holland American Legion Auxiliary; St. Mary’s Ladies Sodality; The Singing Seniors; Augerona Rebekah Lodge; Fraternal Order of Eagles; Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary; and Daughters of Isabella.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert J. Doolittle, who died in 1990; and one brother, Walter Fischer, Jr..

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Emmy (Carl) Sutera of Wilmington, Mass.; two grandchildren, Robert Sutera and Carlee Sutera both of Massachusetts.

Elfrieda E. “Frieda” Lueken, 84, Jasper, Indiana, passed away peacefully at 7:55 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper.

Frieda was born in St. Anthony, Indiana on October 29, 1931, to Henry and Helen (Brames) Buechler. She married Alois F. “Ollie” Lueken on October 17, 1953, in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1999.

She was a homemaker but had worked at the Hasenour Motor Company in her early years, as well as Hook Drugs.

Frieda was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and their Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality and quilting ministries. She spent time volunteering at the Community Food Bank and Holy Family Church and School.

She enjoyed walking and gardening. She was considered a great friend to those around her and loved her family.

She is survived by one son, John Lueken and wife Stacie of Georgetown, Ind.; one sister, Imelda Mehling and husband Eugene of Ferdinand; two brothers, Ralph Buechler of St. Anthony and Wilfred Buechler and wife Marilyn of St. Anthony; one sister-in-law, Lila Buechler of St. Anthony; nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death besides her husband was one sister, Irma Jean, who died in infancy; and one brother, John Buechler.

Roberta J. Harris, 90, of Jasper, passed away at 6:18 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper.

Roberta was born on April 24, 1925 in Jasper, Indiana, to Robert and Maime (Frank) Mehne. She married Walter N. Harris on October 12, 1944 at Christ Lutheran Church in Haysville, Indiana. He preceded her in death on September 20, 2000.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Haysville, where she was a charter member and a 50-plus-year-member of the Extension Homemaker’s Club. She also attended Shiloh Church and the New Heart Sunday School Class.

She was a farmer’s wife and helped out on the farm. She also worked at Lord’s Dress Shop for many years and retired from the Cato store.

She enjoyed daily devotions, gardening, baking, cooking, quilting and her flowers.

She is survived by three sons, Walter “Ray” Harris and his fiancé Cindy of Opdyke, Ill., Daniel “Danny” Harris and his wife Linda of Carmi, Ill. and Larry Harris and his wife Kristine of Jasper; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death besides her husband are one son, Robert Nicholas “Nick” Harris and one sister, Cleda Jackle.

Joan Alstott, 77, of Huntingburg, passed away at 2:23 a.m., on Monday, April 11, 2016, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

She was born April 12, 1938, in Edinburg, Indiana.

Joan worked as a Qualified Medication Aid and also as a United Methodist Church minister’s wife, assisting in her husband’s ministry. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Huntingburg; and enjoyed sewing, crafts, reading and listening to music.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Ellen Burton; her first husband, Donald K. Goben, who died in 1990; her second husband, Robert Alstott, Sr., who died in 2003; and one son, Charles Goben.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Deanna (Steve) Braunecker of Huntingburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan (Mary) Goben of Frankfort, Ky.; three grandchildren.

Mae E. Atkins, 97, of Birdseye, passed away at 9:20 a.m., on Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.

She was born May 1, 1918, in Birdseye, Indiana to Tom and Lena (Holzbog) Oxley.  She married Warner G. Atkins on June 1, 1935, in Birdseye.

Mae was a homemaker and a member of the Birdseye Order of the Eastern Star #590 and Wickliffe United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warner G. Atkins, who died on February 22, 1993; one son, Jack Atkins; four brothers, Sam, Robert, Everett and Thurman Oxley; and one sister, Hazel Leonard.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Larry (Linda) Atkins of Birdseye; one daughter, Doris Abrams of Georgetown, Ind.; daughter-in-law, Mary Lee Atkins of Birdseye; one sister, Ruth Lohn of Birdseye; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Geraldine “Gerry” Hentrup, 85, Jasper, Indiana passed away at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Brookside Village Health Care Center in Jasper.

She was born at Dubois, Indiana on February 18, 1931, to Anthony and Selma (Fischer) Strotman Sr. She married Wilfred Hentrup October 20, 1949, in St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Dubois. He preceded her in death on September 28, 2014.

Gerry retired from the former Jasper Holiday Inn where she worked for 40 years

She is a member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Dubois.

She enjoyed bingo, playing cards. Also spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Charles Jess DeWeese, 62, of Petersburg, passed away at 2:22 p.m., on Friday, April 8, 2016, at Amber Manor Care Center in Petersburg.

He was born March 16, 1954, in Oakland City, Indiana to George DeWeese and Ima Jean Uppencamp. He married Sherry Hope Mitchell on May 24, 1974, in Birdseye.

Charles worked in the salvage business and enjoyed fishing and squirrel hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Sherry Hope DeWeese, who died August 3, 2007.

He is survived by two daughters, Heather Sanders of Petersburg, Ind., Dyla (husband, P.J.) Barrett of Winslow; three sons, David DeWeese of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, Nathan DeWeese of Petersburg and Danny DeWeese of Winslow; two sisters, Effie Warner of Winslow and Judy Gill of Oakland City; five brothers, Doc DeWeese of Winslow, Robert DeWeese of Winslow, David DeWeese of Evansville, Paul Gene DeWeese of Evansville and Henry DeWeese of Evansville; and ten grandchildren.

Carl Andrew Cato, 52, of Winslow, passed away at 7:44 p.m., on Friday, April 8, 2016, at his home.

He was born October 28, 1963, in Huntingburg, Indiana to Yulin Gene and Wilma Mae (Quackenbush) Cato.

Carl was a coal miner for Peabody Coal Company and enjoyed horseback riding.  He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn (maiden name, Wheatley) Cato of Winslow; one daughter, Tasha Cato (companion, Benny Thomas) of Winslow; one son, Zachary Ryan Cato of Winslow; four sisters, Mrs. Jeanie (Jerry) Fuesler of Huntingburg, Bonita Smith (companion, Bill Hamm) of Oakland City Angela Cummins (companion, Fred Lucas) of Velpen and Rebecca Cato (companion, Jim Cutler) of Winslow; and two granddaughters, Nevaeh McGee and Ravynne Cato.

Leo A. “Junie” Giesler Jr., 82, Ferdinand, died Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at his home.

He was born at Jasper on Sept. 24, 1933, to Leo A. Sr. and Catherine (Heichelbech) Giesler.

Mr. Giesler was a self-employed farmer.

Surviving are three sisters, Shirley Lindauer of Ferdinand, Martha (Don) Oxley of Huntingburg and Mary Denning of St. Meinrad; two brothers, Ronald (Shirley) Giesler and Bill (Mary Jo) Giesler, both of Ferdinand; a half-brother, Bob Burger Sr. of Ferdinand; a brother-in-law, Tom Mendel of Jasper; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Mendel, and two brothers-in-law, Henry Lindauer and Frank Denning.

There will be no services or visitation. Burial will be in St. Ferdinand Catholic Church Cemetery in Ferdinand.



Bernice G. Rottet, 84, Jasper, passed away at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at her daughter’s home in Linton, Indiana.

She was born in Jasper, Indiana on November 16, 1931, to Leo and Anita (Brelage) Durcholz. She married Leo A. Rottet on October 3, 1954, in Vincennes, Indiana. He preceded her in death on May 10, 2012.

Bernice had worked at Yaggis Restaurant in Jasper for 18 years. She also had worked at the Jenco Service Station for 13 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and their St. Anne’s Society.

She enjoyed going to auctions, reading, spending time with family, making people laugh, and talking about God.

She is survived by two daughters, Charlene Kluemper and husband Ken of Solsberry, Ind. and Renee Rottet-Aufderheide and her wife Kim of Linton, Ind.; two sons, Tim Blackgrave of Jasper and Kenneth Rottet of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irma Kinder of Jasper and Laverne Sermersheim of Jasper; two brothers, Len Durcholz and wife Sharon of the Villages, Fla. and Jim Durcholz and wife Linda of Evansville.

Preceding her in death beside her husband was daughter, Diane Kluemper; infant daughter Linda Blackgrave, infant son, Terry Blackgrave, and two brothers, Eugene and Ronald Durcholz.

Jean Scherle, 80, of Jasper, passed away at 5:00 a.m. today, Thursday, April 7, 2016, at her home.

She was born at Huntingburg to Willis and Marie (Vandver) Stillwell. She married Arnold L. Scherle on February 13, 1954, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg. He preceded her in death on September 22, 2003.

Jean worked as a certified nurse assistant at the former Providence Home Health Care in Jasper for over 40 years. Her hobbies were gardening, taking care of her pet cat, crocheting and especially, reading history.

Jean was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church and her prayer group.

She is survived by her daughter, Joni Jacob and her husband Dave of Ireland; sons, Kenneth Lee Scherle of Jasper, Timothy Allen Scherle of Houston, Texas, Jim Scherle and wife Mary of Huntingburg and Steve “Fuzz” Scherle of Ireland; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Stillwell and wife Helen and Tom Stillwell and wife Alice, all of Kyana.

Preceding her in death besides her husband are one sister Betty Stillwell and three brothers, Arvin, Jerome and Bob Stillwelll.

Sister Barbara Jean Luebbehusen, 66, of Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, died at 4:41 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at the monastery.

Sister Barbara Jean was born November 2, 1949, in St. Henry, Indiana, the second of three children of Emil and Martina (Graehler) Luebbehusen.  She entered the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand in 1967 and made her profession of monastic vows in 1969. She celebrated the 25th anniversary of her monastic profession in 1994.

She is survived by her sister, Clara Mae Boeglin of Ferdinand; nieces and nephews; and members of her religious community. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Henry.

For the past 15 years, Sister Barbara Jean was a teacher at Sacred Heart Model School in Louisville, Kentucky.  She was also a baker in the monastery bakery.  She previously served as a missionary and teacher in Morropón, Peru, and in Cobán, Guatemala.  She was a clerical assistant to administration and technical services assistant at the monastery and a sales associate in the monastery gift shop.  She also taught at Holy Spirit School in Evansville, Indiana.

Visitation will be at the monastery on Friday, April 8, from 2 to 6:45 p.m. EDT and on Saturday, April 9, from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.  A wake service will be on Friday at 7 p.m. The funeral Mass will be on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the monastery church followed by burial in the monastery cemetery.

Dennis N. Witte, 72, of Huntingburg, passed away at 10:10 a.m. CDT on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville.

He was born April 18, 1943, in Huntingburg, Indiana to Emil B. and Lucille C. (Auffart) Witte.  He married Agnes B. Waninger on September 11, 1965, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Fulda.

Dennis retired from Holland Dairy where he worked in the dairy’s plant and also retired from farming. Dennis served in the United States Army National Guard and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg and the Ferdinand American Legion Post #124.

He was preceded in death by: his mother and father; three brothers, Leroy Witte and James and Ronald Witte who both died in infancy; and one sister, Alberta Ebert.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes B. Witte of Huntingburg; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Gary Witte of Jasper, Eric Witte of Jasper, Duane (Michelle) Witte of Jasper and Brian (Tammy) Witte of Cabot, Arkansas; one brother and one sister-in-law, Allan (Carol) Witte of Velpen; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary Ann Witte of Jasper, Dorothy Hoffman of Ferdinand and Carol (Kenny) Schipp of Ferdinand; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

William E. “Bill” Barnhart, 89, formerly of Jasper, passed away on April 5, 2016, at Perry County Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Martinsville, Indiana, on January 1, 1927. His parents were the late Eldon and Minnie (Hayes) Barnhart.

A 1946 graduate of Jasper High School Bill married Wilma C. Heim on September 3, 1950, in Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg.

He and his wife owned and operated the former Barnhart Furniture Store, retiring in 1986, after 25 years of service to the community.

Bill was a member of First United Methodist Church Barbershoppers, Tell City Kiwanis, Gideons International and United Methodist Men. He enjoyed flower gardening and always took pride in how his yard was kept.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Wilma; children, Priscilla Campbell (Richard), Newburgh, Libby Gengelbach (Lee), Tell City, Peggy Hodskins, Tell City and Doug Barnhart (Donna Payne), Cabot, Arkansas; sisters, Jean Fox, Lombard, Illinois and Marlene Foster, Spencer; grandchildren, Kim Gengelbach (Mark Herrmann), Kevin Gengelbach (Jenna), Chad Lethig (Carmen), Kristi Nor (Eric), Tracey Hageman (Bryan), Eric Foury (Angie) and Jared Foury, Caleb Barnhart (Jon Meinen) and Gabriel Barnhart (Jenna) and great-grandchildren, Elsa and Brennan Nor, Cole, Noah and Zoe Hageman, Ainsley and Eliza Lethig, Jana and Trent Foury, Miles Wilson and Rhett Gengelbach.

Preceding him in death were his sisters, Evelyn Pfau and Merle Smith; brothers, Dale and Orville Barnhart and a great-granddaughter, Emma Nor.

Mary Jane Honea, 91, of Jasper, passed away at 8:07 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper.

Mary Jane was born in Kerens, Texas, on April 6, 1924 to Westley and Addie (Anderson) Paul. She married Ollie Honea on September 14, 1945. He preceded her in death on December 27, 1980.

Mary Jane was a homemaker and enjoyed knitting, at which she was very talented.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Honea and his wife Cindy of Hopkinsville, Kentucky and Randy Honea of Nashville, Tennessee; two granddaughters, Christy Faivre-Malloy and Melissa Honea; one great-grandson, David Spurlin.

Preceding her in death besides her husband are two sisters and four brothers.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Joseph C. Steffen, 63, of Ireland, passed away at 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at Cathedral Health Care Center in Jasper.

Joe was born in Jasper, Indiana on January 12, 1953, to Clarence and Verena (Kunkler) Steffen. He married Jan Padgett on August 10, 1973, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

Joe retired from Jasper Engines and Transmissions after 25 years of service. He was a member of the Huntingburg Seventh-day Adventist Church. He enjoyed helping with his church and spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Jan Steffen of Ireland; two sons, Derek Steffen and wife Michelle of Jasper and Ryan Steffen of Cincinnati, Ohio; one daughter, Keisha Creager and husband Mark of Bloomington; six grandchildren, Brooks and Caroline Creager, Madelynn and Reid Steffen, and Alayna and Nathan Steffen; two sisters, Mary Jane Klee of Jasper and Juliana Nordhoff and husband John of Bloomington; one brother, Lenny Steffen and wife Mary of Colorado

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Funeral services for Joseph C. Steffen will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 8, 2016, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, Indiana with burial to follow in Shiloh Cemetery in Jasper. Brian Wilson will officiate.

M. Jane Olinger, 71, Indianapolis, formerly of Ferdinand, passed away Monday, March 28, 2016, in the care of her sisters, Rita and Mary Ellen, at Rita’s home in Fishers after a 10 month battle with cancer. This was a 3rd and final bout with cancer since age 49.

She was born at Evansville on Sept. 30, 1944, to Emil and Alice Olinger.

Jane was a graduate of St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Evansville Class of 1965. She worked ICU at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis for 30 years. She retired 5 years ago and was able to enjoy several years of tennis and travel with her many friends.

She is survived by her son, John Paul and 2 grandsons, Lunden and Ellis of Indianapolis; 2 sisters, Rita (Wayne) Jones of Indy and Mary Ellen (Leo) Will of Evansville; brothers, John (Pierrett) of Lowell, MI, Steve of Westfield, and Tom (Sandra) of San Jose, CA; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Alice Olinger, and her brother, surfer Joe Olinger.

Her wish was to be cremated and a Celebration of Life Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 7 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Indianapolis. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until mass.

Lula B. Buchta, 90, of Jasper, passed away at 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, 2016, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper.

Lula was born in French Lick, on July 13, 1925, to Elwood and Romie (Bledsoe) Carnes. She married Linus Buchta on February 11, 1945, in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville. He preceded her in death on February 15, 2007.

Lula was a homemaker and member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville and the Eastern Star. She enjoyed bowling, bingo, and reading. She especially enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Ruckriegel of Jasper; one son, Robert Buchta and his wife Martha of Jasper; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, Wayne Carnes and his wife, Elsie of French Lick.

Preceding her in death besides her husband are one granddaughter, Tracy Ruckriegel; one son-in-law, Richard Ruckriegel; one sister, Betty Rominger; and two brothers, Elwood Jr. and Jesse Carnes.

Funeral services for Lula B. Buchta will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Pastor Charla Grieves will officiate.

Patricia J. Collins, 83, of Jasper, passed away early Sunday morning, April 3, at the Northwood Good Samaritan Center in Jasper.

She was born November 23, 1932, in Muncie and was the daughter of the late Carlton and Gracie (Sanders) Wilson.

Patricia was a former housekeeper at the French Lick Hotel and enjoyed motorcycle riding, camping, going to car races and family.

Patricia is survived by two daughters, Judy Martin of Loogootee and Carol (Mark) Humbert of Jasper, four sons, David Collins SR (Ann) of Eaton, Danny Collins, SR of Shoals, Frank Collins, SR of Hartford City and Ronald Collins SR of Shoals; one brother Jerry Wilson of Galveston, Ind.; 19 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is proceeded in death by her husband, Bill Collins JR; two daughters, Beverly Sue Collins and Freda Bell Collins; one brother and four sisters.

Funeral services for Patricia will be held Wednesday, April 6th, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Garden View funeral home in Muncie with Deta Starbuck-Lasley officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Carla Michelle “Missy” Eckert, 50, of Huntingburg, passed away at 4:43 a.m., on Thursday, March 31, 2016, at The Waters of Huntingburg nursing center in Huntingburg.

She was born March 29, 1966, in Huntingburg, Indiana to Eddie Dale and Mary Lou (Steffen) Eckert. Missy was a member of the First Pentecostal Church of Birdseye. The family considered Missy to be a special angel sent to them from God above and they cherished every moment they were able to love and care for her.

She was preceded in death by her father, Eddie Dale Eckert, who died October 17, 2013.

She is survived by her mother, Mary Lou Eckert of Huntingburg; three brothers, Todd Eckert of Shoals, Brian (fiancé, Lisa Wilkey) Eckert of Washington, Ind. and Bret (wife, Erica) Eckert of Birdseye; her grandmother, Pauline Harris of Huntingburg; two nieces, three nephews and one great-niece.

Norman F. Brosmer, 93, of Birdseye, formerly of Dubois, passed away at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper.

Norman was born on April 22, 1922, in Dubois to Lawrence and Mary (Theising) Brosmer. He had two marriages. His first marriage was to Irene Taylor on October 22, 1946 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Loogootee. She preceded him in death on November 26, 1980. He then married Dolores Hartwick on January 25, 2002 in St. Celestine Catholic Church.

Norman was an U.S. Army paratrooper who served in World War II. He was a member of the Jasper VFW Post #673 and the Jasper American Legion Post #147. He was a lifelong farmer and also worked for the State of Indiana at Indiana Girls School and then at Patoka Lake Reservoir.

He was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church in Dubois. He enjoyed fishing, camping, square dancing, and spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores Brosmer of Birdseye; two daughters, Diane Purcell of Zephyrhills, Fla. and Patty Englert and husband Terry of Dubois; one son, Ron Brosmer and wife Carol of Greenfield; one stepson, Jim Hartwick and wife Debbie of Celestine; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death beside his first wife is daughter, Jeannie Galloway; son, Bill Brosmer; grandchild, Andy Galloway; sister, Catherine Schnell; and brother, Robert Brosmer.

Robert E. Crist, 68, of Huntingburg, passed away at 1:41 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2016, at Cypress Grove Rehab Center in Newburgh.

He was born October 15, 1947, in New York.

Robert was a truck driver, as well as a concrete and blacktop worker. He had an experience with God within the last few years. The years since have been the best and happiest years of his life.

He is survived by his significant other, Karrie Eckert of Huntingburg.

There will be no services held.

Shirley A. Scott, 68, of Huntingburg, passed away at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2016, at The Waters of Huntingburg.

She was born February 25, 1948, in Sylacauga, Al., to Ruben Morris and Juanita Bell (Brownlow) Jarrett.  Shirley married Don Scott on October 28, 1984, in Hartford, Ky.

She was a homemaker; who enjoyed crocheting, gardening, fishing and cooking.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Tony Gandy.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Don Scott of Owensboro; one daughter, Melisa Robles-Sanchez of Owensboro; one sister, Betty Sue Jarrett of Texas; five grandchildren.

Charles R. Knebel, 65, of Jasper, passed away at 12:03 p.m. on Monday, March 28, 2016, at the home of his sister.

Charles was born in Huntingburg on May 25, 1950 to Linus and Edna (Kunkler) Knebel.

Charles was a Vietnam veteran. He was a self-employed construction worker for many years and owned and operated Knebel’s Lawn Service. Charles was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and V.F.W. Post #673. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.

He is survived by one daughter, Christine Hamilton of Jasper; one grandson; parents,
Linus and Edna Knebel of Jasper; five sisters, Ruth Knebel of Jasper, Shirley Harter and her husband Jeff of Jasper, Bonnie Young and her husband Greg of Jasper, Mary Weyer and her husband Don of Jasper and Pam Hughes and her husband Ralph of Jasper; five brothers,

Don Barkley, 77, of Huntingburg, passed away at 7:28 a.m. Monday, March 28, 2016, at his home.

He was born October 20, 1938, in Bloomington to James Alfred and Maude (Bradley) Barkley.

He graduated with the French Lick “Red Devils” High School Class of 1956 and married Mary Ann Young on November 8, 1958, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper.

Don retired from Jasper Rubber Company; after which, he went to work for Casey’s General Store in Huntingburg and Walmart in Jasper where he was employed as a store greeter. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper. He enjoyed restoring cars, gardening, and watching NASCAR and golf.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William Andrew Barkley; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Don is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Barkley of Huntingburg; 13 children, Mrs. Dee (Dan) Hochgesang of Huntingburg, Mrs. Rev. Tamela L. Fleck, 52, of Jasper, passed away at 12:00 a.m. on Saturday (March 26, 2016) at home.

Tamela was born in Fredericktown, Missouri, on November 27, 1963, to Keith and Judith (Montgomery) Gibbs. She married Scott Fleck on July 13, 2004, in Gatlinburg, TN.

She was a homemaker.

She enjoyed being outside, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and family.

She is survived by her husband, Scott Fleck of Jasper; one son, John Goller and fiancé Kayla Kinder of Jasper; one daughter, Heather Gibbs of Washington; parents, Keith and Judy Gibbs of Belleville, Ill.; two sisters, Kimmy Hermann and companion Jeff Gintz of Belleville, Ill. and Cindy Gibbs and fiancé Bob Young of Belleville, Ill.; four brothers, Mike Gibbs and wife Gwen of Dupo, Ill., Timothy Gibbs of Fort Worth, Tex., Brian Gibbs and wife Kathy of Kentucky and Steve Gibbs and wife Kathy of Mascoutah, Ill.; five grandchildren, Kenyon Middleton, Lydia Gibbs, Naleah Gibbs, John Goller Jr. and Ayden Goller; nieces and nephews.

Geraldine (Gerri) Schnaus, 59, of Loogootee, died of cancer Sunday, March 20, 2016.

She was at home with family by her side, after never giving up during a two-year battle.

She was born in Jasper on March 18, 1957, to George and Marian (Prechtel) Eckerle.

Gerri graduated from Jasper High School in 1975 and later completed a Bachelor’s Degree in business from the University of Southern Indiana. She married Stephen Schnaus, her high school sweetheart, in 1977. They moved to the Evansville area to raise a family until the two of them retired and moved to Sarasota, Florida and then their current residence, Loogootee.

Gerri taught high school business classes and was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students and everyone around her. She also had several other jobs in which she would use her skills to help others in need.

She was a member of St.John’s Catholic Church in Loogootee and volunteered her time at the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Food Pantry. She loved to read, travel, and spend time on the beach or out on the water. Gerri loved being around her grandchildren, spoiling them every chance she could. She also had a deep appreciation for the Amish community in which she was an active supporter and truly admired their culture.

Gerri is survived by her husband Steve of 39 years; two sons, Cale Schnaus (Rachael) of Evansville and Ared Schnaus (Jennifer) of Fort Branch; grandchildren, Paige, Asher, Hayden and Cora; father George Eckerle and his companion Norberta of Jasper; sisters Jane (Gene) Hochgesang of Jasper; Sharon (Fred) Schnell of Birdseye and Karen (Rick) Hauser of Birdeye.

She is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Marian Eckerle.

Memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. EST Saturday, April 2, 2016, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Loogootee. Friends and family may visit from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service.

Clarence “Pete” Schneider, 92, of St. Anthony, passed away Wednesday at 12:05, March 23, 2016 in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

He was born on September 27, 1923 at Ferdinand, Indiana to Andrew and Clella (Worman) Schneider. He married Ardella Persohn on July 21, 1943 in St. Anthony Catholic Church. They were married for 72 years.

Clarence was a World War II U.S. Army veteran serving overseas. He was a retired Teamster’s truck driver and farmer.

He is a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Huntingburg V.F.W. Post # 2366, Jasper German Club and the St. Anthony Senior Citizens.

He enjoyed family and grandchildren, friends and driving around the country.

He is survived by his wife, Ardella Schneider; daughters, Sharon Terry and husband Tony of Silverville, Ind. and Mary Ann Eckstein of Huntingburg; sons, Randy Schneider and wife Gwendolyn of Kyana, Lonnie Schneider and wife Cheryl of Ferdinand and Myron Schneider and wife Angie of Shelbyville, Ky.; 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Preceding him in death is one daughter, Diana Schneider and two son, Allen Schneider and Don Schneider. Also one brother Orville Schneider and four sisters, Grace Brosmer and Helen Schneider, Bertha Steczyk and Anna Rose Hieichelbech.

Charles Gogel, 77, Jasper, formerly of Dale, passed away, Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at Memorial Hospital in Jasper.

Charles was born October 16, 1938 in Dale to Edward and Ida (Balbach) Gogel. He married Janice Recker on October 7, 1961 in St. Ferdinand Church.

Charles was a retired farmer. Charles was a veteran of the US Army. He was a member of numerous American Legions. Charles was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Jasper and the Jasper Moose Lodge 1175. He enjoyed playing cards, taking drives, attending shooting matches and old tractors.

Charles is survived by his wife, Janice Gogel of Jasper; two sons, Eddie L. (Sandra) Gogel, Michael R. (Misty) Gogel all of Dale; three daughters, Brenda A. Gogel of Jasper, Susan J. (Keith) Hopf of Kyana and Jennifer (Clint) Rust of Santa Claus; two brothers, Dennis (Claire) Gogel of St. Henry and Bill (Atilia) Gogel of Florida; four sisters, Mary (Dave) Ferguson of Huntingburg, Maxine (Ron) Kunz of Jasper, Patty (Bob) Trueblood of Hanover and Rita (Dave) Barnett of Cincinnati, Ohio; 12 grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Ava Rust and a brother, Harvey Gogel.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. CDT Tuesday in Saint Nicholas Catholic Church in Santa Claus with burial to follow in the church cemetery with Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 conducting military graveside rites.

Elizabeth Joan Blesch, 89, of Zionsville, formerly of Holland, passed away at 1:42 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2016, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was born September 10, 1926, in Dale, Indiana to John and Minerva (Jones) Heichelbech. She was a member of the Dale High School Class of 1944 and a graduate of Lockyear Business College. Betty married Jerome W. Blesch on May 6, 1950, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

She was a homemaker and assisted Jerome with the office work at Blesch Brothers, Inc. in Holland. Betty loved crossword puzzles and was a member of the Holland United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her son, Ronald E. Blesch; one brother, Frank Heichelbech; and three sisters, Marguerite Richardson, Eunice Knott, and Dorothy Fischer.

She is survived by her husband, Jerome W. Blesch of Zionsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara (Lonnie) Shafer of Zionsville; and two grandsons, David B. Shafer of Chicago, Illinois and Evan W. Shafer of Cleveland, Ohio.

John E. Popp, 79, of Haysville, passed away at Noon on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at his home.

John was born on February 19, 1937, in Jasper to Ludwig and Arnetta (Harder) Popp. He married Grace Edrington. She preceded him in death on January 7th, 2002.

He was a farmer and then retired from Jasper Engines and Transmissions after 20 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville and a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed gardening, working outside, fishing, hunting, and riding his motorcycle.

He is survived by his companion, Marie Harder of Haysville; three daughters; Brenda Pielemeier and husband Bob of Evansville, Janet Popp and companion Bill Tomlinson of French Lick and Diane Popp and companion Bill Henninger of Eckerty; one son, Bobby Popp and wife Becky of Petersburg; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Juanita Hembree and husband Radus of Loogootee.

Preceding him in death besides his wife was one brother, Junior Popp and one sister, Gladys Popp.

 Carol G. Tribbie, 82, of Gentryville, passed away at 7:14 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2016, at the Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand where she has resided for the past three years.

She was born February 14, 1934, in Huntingburg, Indiana to Walter and Geneva (Conner) Horney.

Carol was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family and being outdoors with her horses and dogs.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William David Tribbie.

She is survived by three sons and two daughter-in-laws, William “Bill” (spouse, Bettye Sue) Tribbie of Gentryville, Patrick (spouse, Kim) Tribbie of Dale and Kenneth Tribbie of Gentryville; two daughters and one son-in-law, Lois (spouse, Ron) Mason of Huntingburg and Valerie “Jane” Allen of Richland; by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Brenda Jean Aust, age 63, of Stendal, passed away at 7:23 p.m., on Thursday, March 17, 2016, at her residence.

She was born May 28, 1952, in Bedford, Indiana to George and Betty (Carnes) Rominger. She married Allen Aust on June 30, 1974, in French Lick.

She graduated from Springs Valley High School, Oakland City College and Indiana State University where she received her master’s degree in education. Brenda retired from the Winslow Elementary School after 35 years of teaching. She was a member of the Bethel General Baptist Church. She enjoyed creative outlets such as drawing, sewing, photography and singing. Brenda was a hot rod enthusiast who enjoyed Indiana history and mushroom hunting each spring. Most of all, Brenda enjoyed following her grandchildren’s endeavors.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Allen Aust of Stendal; three daughters, Krissy (Brian) Key of Winslow, Winter (Josh) Fiscus of Winslow and Amber (Jayme) Kunz of Stendal; one sister, Beverly (Kern) Hendrix of West Lafayette; one brother, Bill (Brenda) Rominger of West Baden Springs; eight grandchildren.

Steven Alan Klem, 61, of Huntingburg, passed away at 6:00 p.m., on Thursday, March 17, 2016, at his residence.

He was born on March 18, 1954, in Huntingburg, Indiana to Walter and Ruby (Lanman) Klem.

Steven worked for the City of Huntingburg as a wastewater technician and retired from Farbest Foods where he worked in a similar capacity. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church; and an avid woodworker and fisherman.

Steven was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Linda Riggles.

He is survived by one son, Chris Klem of Jasper; one daughter, Kara Klem of Holland; three sisters, Sharon (Marty) Keil of Munster, Ind., Becky (Denny) Hohler of Jasper and Rhonda Klem of Lake Station, Ind.; three brothers, Dave (Sandy) Klem of Huntingburg, Doug (Beth) Klem of Huntingburg, and Kurt (Cindy) Klem of Indianapolis; and two grandsons, Colin Klem and Connor Klem.

Thomas R. Wilkinson, Sr., 83, of Dale, passed away at 7:20 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2016, at the Southwood Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center in Terre Haute.

He was born March 10, 1933, in Terre Haute, Indiana to Clay McBride Wilkinson and Ruby Anna Mary (Newcomb) Wilkinson. He married Betty J. Bryant on November 10, 1990, at the Pentecostal Church in Gentryville.

Tom worked for 49 years as a construction electrician and was a member of the IBEW Local #725 in Terre Haute. He was a member of the Lincolnland Worship Center in Santa Claus and served in the Naval Reserves for six years. Tom loved fishing, listening to gospel music, singing at his church, watching football on Sundays, and reading his bible daily.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and four siblings, Beverly, Mary, Carol, and John.

He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Wilkinson of Dale; three sons, Thomas R. (Charlotte) Wilkinson, Jr. of Brazil, Ind., Jerry J. (Sherry) Wilkinson of Brazil, Ind. and Timothy P. (Shelly) Wilkinson of Terre Haute, Ind.; one stepson, Doug (Pam) Glyn of Tennyson; two stepdaughters, Glenda (Kevin) Hildenbrand of Dale and Sherry (Eddie) Gogel of Dale; one sister, Suzanne Boswell of Terre Haute; by eight grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 17 step-great-grandchildren.

Denise M. (Neukam) Hancock, 52, of Evansville, passed away on Thursday morning, March 17, 2016, at her home.

Denise was born in Jasper, Indiana on October 29, 1963, to Richard and Shirley (Uebelhor) Neukam.

She was a Journeyman Wireman with IBEW Local #16 in Evansville. Denise was a 1982 Graduate of Dubois High School. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with friends and family.

She is survived by her father, Richard W. Neuka of Jasper; two brothers, Rick Neukam and wife Allison of Evansville and Derick Neukam and wife Jennifer of Jasper; former husband, Donn Hancock of Evansville; receding her in death was her mother, Shirley Neukam.

Vincent Lee Dearing, 57, of Huntingburg, passed away at 2:25 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

He was born December 10, 1958, in Huntingburg, Indiana to Jackie Lee and Frieda (Kendall) Dearing.  He married Tina R. Mullis on November 20, 1987, at the Northside Pentecostal Church in Huntingburg.

Vince was a field service technician for the Jasper Group, where he worked for the past 28 years.  He held the position of Bishop at The House of Prayer Ministries in Huntingburg. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He loved studying the Bible.

Vince was preceded in death by his father, Jackie Lee Dearing.

He is survived by his wife, Tina R. Dearing of Huntingburg; two daughters, Alysia Dearing of Huntingburg and Maleah Dearing at home; his mother, Frieda (Art, Sr.) Ross of Huntingburg; two brothers, Kenton Ross of Rowlett, Texas and Art Ross, Jr. of Jasper; two sisters, Idana Crowe of Duff and Brenda Zajicek of Golden, Colo.; and one granddaughter, Alayna Dearing.

Rosamary H. Street, 75, of Loogootee, passed away at 2:44 p.m. March 14, 2016, at Memorial Hospital and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born June 17, 1940 in St. Angelo, Texas, to the late Arthur and Martha (Aiton) Hollaway.

Rosamary was a member of Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church. She loved riding horses and Harleys. She enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Street; parents, Arthur and Martha (Aiton) Hollaway; sisters, Hazel Jameson and Beulah Faye Tolit.

Lloyd E. Prusz, 91, of Holland, passed away at 4:18 a.m. Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Brookside Village in Jasper.

He was born April 24, 1924, in Holland, Indiana to Edward and Katherine “Kate” (Steinkamp) Prusz. Lloyd graduated with the Holland High School Class of 1942 and was united in marriage to Melba Sarah Hemmer on November 28, 1947, in Holland.

He was a retired farmer and a director of the former Holland National Bank. Lloyd was acknowledged for his progressive agricultural practices when he was honored with the Dubois County Conservation Farmer of the Year Award and the Indiana River Friendly Farmer Award.  He was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church where he previously served as a trustee, deacon and Sunday School superintendent. He enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Indiana University basketball and St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.

Lloyd was preceded in death by two brothers, Irvin Prusz and Lawrence Prusz; one son-in-law, Larry Krohn; and one grandson, Trey Townsend.

He is survived by his wife, Melba S. Prusz of Holland; three daughters and two son-in-laws, Martha Krohn of Princeton, Janet (Stu) Townsend of Huntingburg; Carol (Ron) Leistner of Holland; one son and daughter-in-law, Don (Sara) Prusz of Holland; by eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Anna Mae Williams, 80, of Huntingburg, passed away at 3:40 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Signature HealthCare in Newburgh.

She was born June 25, 1935, in Holland to Aaron and Opal (Wellmeyer) Niehaus. She married Ross G. Williams on September 4, 1955, at St. James Lutheran Church in Holland.

Ann Mae worked for Styline Corporation, where she also retired. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross G. Williams, who passed away on September 28, 2006.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Mark Ross (Rita) Williams of Stendal; three granddaughters, Amber Williams Schenk of Evansville, Dr. Mallory Williams Zorn of Orlando, Fla., and Kirby Williams of Evansville; one grandson, Damian Williams of Evansville; and one great-grandson, Noah Schenk.

Graveside services for Anna Mae Williams will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg. Bernadette K. Schneider, 91, of Schnellville, passed away at 7:04 p.m. on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at the Timbers of Jasper.

Bernadette was born on August 5, 1924, in Schnellville to Andrew and Katherine (Heichelbech) Merkley. She married Orville Schneider on May 18, 1943 at Sacred Heart Church. He preceded her in death on August 2, 1972.

Bernadette was an assistant postmaster at the Kyana Post Office and delivered mail for many years. She also taught religion, and was caretaker and rosary leader at Sacred Heart Church.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville and their St. Anne’s Sodality, the Schnellville Community Center and the Schnellville Conservation Club. She was a recipient of the Brute Society award.

She enjoyed buying ice cream for the children in her neighborhood and spending time with the neighbors, friends and family.

She is survived by four daughters, Marilyn Hedinger and husband Maurice of Schnellville, Doris Haas of Jasper, Connie E. Thewes and husband Randy of Celestine and Cathy Tolbert and husband George of Paoli; three sons, Andrew Schneider and wife Kathy of Birdseye, Tom Schneider and wife Mary of Schnellville and Kenny Schneider and wife Monica of Schnellville; two daughters-in-law, Deb Ernst of Birdseye and Becky Weisman and husband Bill of Holland; 16 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 23 step-great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; 15 step-great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Albert Merkley of Schnellville.

Preceding her in death beside her husband were two sons, Gary and Orville Jr. “Buck” Schneider, Sisters; Frances Schuetter and Rita Sivori, brothers; Arthur, Ralph, Clarence, Gilbert and Leo Vic Merkley, and two brothers Joseph and Andrew Jr. who both died in childhood.

Ruthanna B. Welp, 75, of Huntingburg, passed away at 4:53 p.m., on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at the Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper.

She was born January 16, 1941, in Bristow, Indiana to Ervin and Bernis (VanHoosier) Lanman. She was married to Charles T. Welp on August 27, 1960, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg.

Ruthie was a homemaker. Caring for her family was the primary focus and joy of her life. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and also enjoyed crossword puzzles and birdwatching.

Ruthie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles T. Welp, who passed away April 23, 2012; one sister, Rosie Schnellenberger; and one brother, James Lanman.

She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, John (Iris) Welp of Madison, Wis.; Scott Welp of Huntingburg; two daughters and one son-in-law, Christine (John) Fulkerson of Arlington, Texas and Laurie Webb of Freedom, Ind.; one sister and brother-in-law, Patty (Marvin) Wright of Huntingburg; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Helen R. Jacob, 78, of Jasper, passed away at 9:05 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016, at her home.

She was born in Jasper, Indiana on June 12, 1937, to Ben and Francis (Sanders) Hurst. She married Donald Jacob on September 1, 1956, at Mary Help of Christians Church in Mariah Hill.

She set the foundation for hundreds of children at Helen’s Nursery School over a 35-year period. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and their Blessed Virgin Sodality. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Jacob of Jasper; two daughters, Carol Guerra and husband Nick of Orlando, Fla. and Shelly Clark and husband Scott of Jasper; four sons, Dave Jacob and wife Joni of Ireland, Dean Jacob and wife Joan of Jasper, Darrell Jacob and wife Jan of Ferdinand and Dan Jacob of Ferdinand; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Catherine Buechlein and husband Dennis of Jasper,
Dorothy Mehringer and husband Vernon of Jasper and Betty Berth of Jasper; three brothers, Clarence Hurst of Huntingburg, Eddie Hurst and wife Almeda of Mariah Hill and Augie Hurst and wife Gail of Jasper.

Orva Rath, 56, of Dallas, Texas, formerly of Dale, died March 8, in Dallas at Parkland Hospital.

He is survived by his parents Rev. Donald and Mary Rath, his siblings Ruth Marshall, Frank Rath, Donna Lamkin and Sally Rainey, and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services are planned for Saturday, March 12, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Garrison Chapel Cemetery west of Dale.

Clara L. Rhoades, 69, of Jasper, passed away at 3:57 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2016, at the Sentara Nursing & Hospice Center in Virginia Beach, Va.

She was born on September 10, 1946, to John W. and Dorothea (Martindale) Patterson. She married James Rhoades February 15, 1969, at Naval Air Station in Willow Grove, Penn.

Clara was a homemaker and member of the Grace Community Church in Jasper.

She enjoyed the Outer Banks watching dolphins, was an avid bowler and her Bible study was very dear to her.

She is survived by her husband James H. Rhoades; daughter, Kristina Jones of Virginia Beach, Va.; brother, James Patterson and his wife Shelley of Jasper; two grandchildren, Adam & Kyle.

Edith M. Soellner, 73, of Jasper, passed away at 4:57 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2016, in the Water Health Care Center in Huntingburg.

She was born in Stewart County Tennessee on March 1, 1943, to Charles and Margie (Ezell) Bogard.

Edith retired from Aristokraft Cabinets in Jasper where she had worked for many years. She is a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Blessed Virgin Sodality. Her enjoyment was her grandchildren and reading novels.

She is survived by two daughters, Julie Green and husband Dennis of Loogootee and Jan Luker and husband Bryan of Holland; two sons, Michael Soellner and his wife Regina of Jasper and Larry Soellner and his wife Melissa of Chester, Ill.; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death is one daughter, Jennifer; one brother, Steve Bogard; and one sister, Mary Ann Bogard.

Spencer Hoffman, 28, of Haysville, passed away on Sunday evening, March 6, 2016, at home.

Spencer was born in Jasper, Indiana on October 26, 1987, to Brook and Jane (Perkins) Hoffman. He married Jennifer Thompson on October 25, 2013, in Paoli.

He was a mechanic for JJ’s Auto in Haysville. He was a member of Jasper Outdoor Recreation. He enjoyed working on cars, and riding off-road vehicles.

He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Hoffman of Jasper; one son, Sawyer Hoffman of Haysville; two stepsons, Blake and Trenton Robling of Jasper; parents, Brook and Jane Hoffman of Haysville; one sister, Kayla Hoffman of Haysville; maternal grandparents, William and Elizabeth Perkins of West Baden; paternal grandfather, Roger Hoffman of Haysville.

Preceding him in death was his paternal grandmother, Phyllis Hoffman

Paul W. Seidl, 64, of Jasper, passed away Friday morning, March 4, 2016, at his home in Jasper.

Paul was born in Huntingburg on January 16, 1952, to Jerome and Ardella (Deinderfer) Seidl. He married Beth Jones on July 5, 1975, at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Paul retired from AT&T. He previously worked as the Utility Superintendent for the Town of Ferdinand. He also worked for Jasper Stylemasters /Jasper Plastics.

He was a graduate of the Jasper High School Class of 1970, a 1974 graduate of Indiana University, and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

He a charter member of the Jasper Optimists, where he served as president and lieutenant governor. He was also a Kentucky Colonel.

he is survived by his wife, Beth Seidl of Jasper; one son, Cory Seidl of Birmingham, Ala.; two sisters, Ann Jochim of Indianapolis and Christine Forsythe and husband Tom of Medford, Ore.; four brothers, Ken Seidl and wife Jane of Jasper, Mike Seidl and wife Lavonne of Jasper, Gene Seidl and wife Cindy of Newburgh and Jay Seidl and wife Jeannie of Jasper; nieces and nephews

Preceding him in death was one sister, Kathy Schmidt.

Randall J. Strange, 45, of Jasper, formerly of Montgomery, passed away at 2:40 p.m. March 4, 2016, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center.

He was born March 8, 1970, to Ed Strange and the late Jeannie (Doyle) Strange.

Randy married Barbara (Schepers) Strange September 18, 1998, and she survives.

He was employed by OFS for 14 years. He loved his grandchildren.

Randy was preceded in death by his mother, Jeannie (Doyle) Strange; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Hilda Schepers.

Frances A. Wineinger, 74 of Cuzco, passed away at4:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2016, at her home.

She was born at Haysville, Indiana March 6, 1941, to Arthur and Rosa (Haase) Freyberger.

She married Leon Wineinger December 28, 1960, Christ Lutheran Church in Haysville.

Frances was a graduate of Dubois High School class of 1959.

She did childcare in her home for many years. Also, she was a homemaker and a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Haysville the Evangelical Women’s Lutheran Church Association.

She was a 4H leader for many years and a member of the Jackson County Saddle Club Spurs and Wheels, Dubois County Saddle Club and the Spring Valley Saddle Club.

She especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Leon Wineinger; one daughter, Della Rae Buechler and husband Keith of Dubois; two sons, Terry Wineinger and wife Marla of Dubois and Trevis Wineinger of Cuzco; four grandchildren, Tiffany, Kendra, Brayden and Trey; one sister, Judy Hohler Ed of Huntingburg,

James M. “Mac” Watts, 68, of Jasper, formerly of Huntingburg, passed away Friday, March 4, 2016, at his home in Jasper.

He was born May 2, 1947, in Huntingburg to Chester and Neoma (Kirby) Watts.

He graduated from Huntingburg High School in 1965. He served in the United States Army and the United States Marine Corps for two tours of enlistment during the Vietnam War. Mac worked at Jasper Seating where he was currently employed. He was a member of the Jasper American Legion and a lifetime member of the Huntingburg V.F.W. Post #2366. His favorite pastime was reading.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Emma Volz, Dorothy Irene Watts and Vera Lucille Watts; and one brother, Paul Earl Watts.

He is survived by two, Pauline Jackson of Jasper and Mary Kay Burch of Huntingburg.

Following his visitation at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, military funeral rites will be held at the funeral home by the V.F.W. Bob Edward Hill, 70, of Lake Helmerich Village near Holland, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, March 1, 2016.

Bob was born on May 11, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois to Bert and Lillian (Ryan) Hill. He was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, Indiana.

After High School, Bob enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War as a sergeant in the Anglico division. Upon his honorable discharge from the Marines, Bob attended and graduated from the Indiana University School of Business. He excelled in a career of sales which allowed him the freedom to spend several wonderful years in Greers Ferry, Ark.with his father assisting in his fishing guide business. In later years he returned to Chicago, Illinois and worked for Fidelitone Incorporated, where he retired.

Bob was an avid sports lover especially when it came to Indiana University basketball, Cubs baseball, and the Chicago Bears. His greatest pleasure and hobby was fishing with his beloved wife Donna.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bert Hill, Jr.; and his wife of over 30 years, Donna (Carnes) Hill.

He is survived by his daughter, Tamara (Steven) Beck of Bonita Springs, Fla.; his stepdaughter, Missy (Steve) Cain of Alexandria, Ky.; his nephew, Bert (Allison) Hill of Minnesota; and many great nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.

As following Bob’s request, there will be no formal funeral services or visitation.

Arrangements for disposition have been entrusted to Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg.



Virginia Lavon Propes, 76, of Jasper, passed away at 3:10 a.m. CST on Thursday, March 3, 2016, at her daughter’s home in Saint Meinrad.

She was born May 6, 1939, in Mud Lick, Kentucky to Samuel and Leona (Strode) Huff.

Lavon retired from the U.S Postal Service where she worked as a relief postmaster at the Eckerty Post Office. She was a member of the Singing Seniors at the Arnold Habig Senior Center in Jasper, the Victory Extension Homemakers Club, the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, and was a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #447 in Louisville.  Lavon enjoyed playing bingo and cards, cooking for her family, and volunteering at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph Mitchell Propes, Sr., who died December 31, 2000; two sisters, Ruby Jennings and Joyce Toby; and one brother, Mitchell Huff.

She is survived by one daughter, Debbie Lavon (son-in-law, Stephen) VanWinkle of Saint Meinrad; one son, Ralph Mitchell (son-in-law, Roberto Campos) Propes, Jr. of Rochester, N.Y.; six brothers, David Huff of Louisville, Kendell Huff of Louisville, Eddie Huff of Birdseye, Jim Huff of Bloomington, Jerry Huff of Birdseye, Clyde Huff of Birdseye; two sisters, Priscilla Eastridge of Taswell, Glenda Sanders of Palmyra.

Ronald Lee Cleveland, 78, of Jasper, formerly of Huntingburg, passed away at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at The Timbers of Jasper.

He was born March 28, 1937, in Huntingburg, Indiana to Charles and Leola (Andry) Cleveland.

He graduated from Huntingburg High School in 1955 and married Shirley Sue Brothers on October 13, 1956, in Huntingburg.

Mr. Cleveland served in the United States Air Force for 20 years, where he held the rank of tech sergeant and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After his service in the Air Force, Ronald retired as a semi tractor-trailer owner and operator. He was a member of the Jasper American Legion, was a dog lover, and had a passion for motorcycles and working on cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George Logan Cleveland and Donald Ray Cleveland; and two grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Sue Cleveland of Jasper; one daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda (Jeffrey) Hammack of Ashburn, Va.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Charles (Deborah) Cleveland of Tallahassee, Fla. and Robert Cleveland of Jasper; one sister, Cheryl Rupp of Indianapolis; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dennis L. Schaeffer, 76, of Jasper, passed away at 4:55 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper.

Dennis was born in Ferdinand, Indiana on October 6, 1939 to Leo and Clara (Welp) Schaeffer. He married Janice Henke on November 24, 1960 at Holy Family Church in Jasper.

Dennis retired from Ditto Sales in Jasper. He served in the Indiana Army National Guard.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper and their Men’s Society, the Jasper Moose Lodge #1175, the American Legion Post #124 in Ferdinand, and Jasper Outdoor Recreation.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Schaeffer of Jasper; one sister, Sharon Seger and husband Kenny of Jasper; two brothers, Bernie Schaeffer and wife Janie of Jasper and Sam Schaeffer and wife Debbie of Evansville.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Elizabeth C. Schmitt, 96, of Ireland, passed away at 7:15 p.m. on Monday, February 29, 2016, at home.

Elizabeth was born in St. Anthony, Indiana on August 15, 1919, to Wendel and Lena (Burke) Wagner. She married Othmar J. Schmitt on May 4, 1946, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in St. Anthony. He preceded her in death on February 10, 1987.

Elizabeth was a homemaker and member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, St. Anne’s Society, the V.F.W. Auxiliary, and a lifetime member of the Ireland Sportsman Club.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by four daughters, Mary Jane Schmitt of Ireland, Pat Durcholz and her husband LeRay of Ireland, Virginia Sermersheim and her husband Jerry of Jasper and Ann Fleck and her husband Glen of Ireland; five sons, Tom Schmitt and his wife Judy of Ireland, Ted Schmitt of Ireland, Ron Schmitt and his wife Bev of Ireland, Gene Schmitt and his wife Martha of Ireland and Alan Schmitt of Ireland; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; four step great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Gruenke of Sheboygan, Wisc.

Preceding her in death besides her husband are one great-granddaughter, Cora Ann Fleck; one great-grandson, Carter Joseph Schmitt; one step-granddaughter, Shannon Sermersheim; one sister, Agnes Schmitt; and six brothers, Tony, Alois, Richard, Joe, and Maurice Wagner, and one who died in infancy.

Roger Lee Corn, 61, passed away at 4:00 a.m., Sunday, February 28, 2016, at The Waters of Huntingburg nursing center in Huntingburg from complications of a long struggle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

He was born May 5, 1954, in Oakland City, Indiana to the late Ronald and Clarice (Tuley) Corn.  He married Martha Lovella Mann on December 24, 1985.  Roger was a finish carpenter until he retired due to failing health.  His Christian faith greatly comforted him.  He loved to play guitar and piano, to sing, read and draw.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Martha Corn, who died January 27, 2002; and an infant daughter, Amanda Corn.

Fredie Lee Gehl, 83, of Jasper, passed away at 8:58 a.m. on Monday, February 29, 2016, at Cathedral Health Care Center in Jasper.

Fredie was born in St. Anthony, Indiana, on December 29, 1932, to Herbert and Rose (Bolte) Gehl. His first marriage was to Yvonne Ann Wollberg on December 7, 1966. She preceded him in death on September 8, 1984. He then married Dorothy Trevathan on December 29, 1990. She preceded him in death as well.

Fredie was a Navy Veteran, who had worked as a baker, and served during the Vietnam War. He previously owned a restaurant in Milan, Tennessee. He also worked as a night watchman at a factory for several years.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #147

He enjoyed reading, gardening, and taking walks.

He is survived by one daughter, Dawn Gehl of Tennessee; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Naomi Egler, and her husband Daniel of Jasper, Mary Lou Schmitt of Jasper and Ruth Sickbert and her husband Randy of Ferdinand; four brothers, Richard Gehl and his wife Tammy of Clarksville, Tenn., Donald Gehl and his wife Margaret of Warrenton, Va., Joseph E. Gehl of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and David Gehl and his wife Becky of Evansville; several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are one son Shawn Gehl, and two sisters, Delores Snyder and Rosalie Johnson.

Esther P. Fuhrman, 80, of Loogootee, passed away at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper.

Esther was born in Shoals, Indiana on February 27, 1936 to Elmer and Ella (Hemmerlein) Wolf. She married Delbert J. Fuhrman on October 4, 1956 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville, Indiana. He preceded her in death on October 7, 2010.

Esther was a homemaker and member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and a past member of the Jasper Moose. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and her animals.

She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Smith and her husband Wade of Loogootee; three sons, Glenn Fuhrman and his wife Karen of Birdseye, Michael Fuhrman of Loogootee and Thomas Fuhrman of Loogootee; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alice Wiseman and her husband Hoyt of Dubois, Marlene Fuhrman and her husband Vic of Shoals and Rose Hoffman and her husband Roger of Haysville; one brother, Elmer Wolf Jr. of Dubois.

Preceding her in death besides her husband are two sisters, Dorothy Lind and Gladys Wolf, and one stillborn brother, John Wolf.

Dennis M. Breeding, 61, of Dubois, passed away at 9:24 p.m. Friday, February 26, 2016, in The Waters of Huntingburg.

He was born in Jasper on March 15, 1954, to Delma T. and Phyllis (Tuttle) Breeding.

He attended Dubois High School and a member of the Cuzco Methodists Church.

Surviving are four brothers, Jerry Breeding and his wife Linda of Dubois, Bruce Breeding and his wife Kay of Dubois, Michael Breeding of Jasper and Phillip Breeding and his wife Celia of Eaton, Ind.; also several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents and one nephew Scott Breeding.

Private interment services will be held at a later date in the Cuzco Cemetery in Cuzco, Indiana.



Duane A. Sermersheim, 62, of Huntingburg passed away at 10:00 a.m. CDT on Friday, February 26, 2016, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville.

Duane was born in Huntingburg on November 30, 1953, to Jerome A. and Laverne E. (Durcholz) Sermersheim.

Duane was a former owner/operator of the Shamrock Restaurant in Ireland. He was a member of the Ireland Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed watching sports and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by one daughter, Starla Neidigh and husband Scott of Washington; one son, Justin Sermersheim and wife Jenny of Jasper; mother, Laverne E. Sermersheim of Jasper; five grandchildren, Brycen, Brant, and Maleigh Neidigh, Ellie Knies, and Dylan Sermersheim; four sisters, Connie Helming, and her husband Bernie of Jasper, Bonnie Keusch of Jasper, Carla Matheis of Washington and Lori Koerner and her husband Matt of Washington; five brothers, Gary Sermersheim and his wife Charlene of Ireland, Mark Sermersheim and his wife Sharon of Ireland, Nick Sermersheim and his wife Tammy of Ireland, Jeff Sermersheim and his wife Patty of Stendal and Daryl Sermersheim and his wife Beth of Boise, Idaho; nieces and nephews.

Fred E. Faith, 81, of Otwell, passed away at 6:40 a.m. Friday, February 26, 2016, in Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center in Jasper.

He was born at Odon, Indiana on October 14, 1934, to Harvey and Mary (Smiley) Faith. He was married to Norma Hill on September 5, 1953, and she preceded him in death on May 17, 1997.

Fred Faith was a retired minister who retired from the Pleasant Grove General Baptist Church in Velpen where he was the pastor for many years. He also worked at Jasper Engines and Transmission for over thirty years. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict.

Currently, he was a Deacon in the Pleasant Grove General Baptist Church in Velpen.

He is survived by his son, Freddie Alan Faith of Winslow; daughters, Kathryn Miller and husband Michael of Winslow and Lisa Bruner of Velpen; four grandchildren, Denim Dorsey, Cory Norris, Chad Norris and Khesha Bruner; eight great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death besides his wife are three sisters, Imogene Faith, Maxine Sink and Hazel Nalley. Also, three brothers, William, Harvey Jr and Bobby Faith.

Roy Stilwell, 101, of Huntingburg, passed away at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at The Waters of Huntingburg nursing center.

He was born November 2, 1914, in Huntingburg, Indiana to James and Ophia (Maxey) Stilwell.

Roy retired from D.M.I. Plant #5 in 1974, where he worked as a warehouse manager. He was also co-owner of Roy Stilwell & Son Triumph Motorcycle Sales and Service in Huntingburg. He loved hunting and fishing, target shooting, playing checkers, and motorcycle riding.

He was preceded in death by three sons, Donald Stilwell, Larry Stilwell and Roy E. Stilwell; two sisters, Ruby Knapp and Ruth Blaylock; and two brothers, Raymond Stilwell and Russell Stilwell.

He is survived by two sons, Jim Stilwell of Newburgh and Ray Stilwell of Pennsylvania; one daughter, Ruth Ann Flannelly of Minneapolis, Minn.; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Private graveside interment will take place at Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg. Nass & Son Funeral Home has been entrusted with the burial arrangements. There will be no public visitation or services. Memorial contributions in memory of Roy Stilwell can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
