Dubois County Query September 5, 1996 Looking for ancestors and descendants of Thomas N. SCOTT and Sinthia Ann SUMMERVILLE who were married 4 July 1844 in Dubois County and who owned (or at least worked) a farm in the County from 1844 to (at least) sometime after 1860. In one of the US Census enumberations they were listed as living in Ferdinand Township. They had several children including: Sarah J. Scott, Mary A. Scott, James Madison Scott, Maria Louisa Scott, Elizabeth Scott, Augustus Scott, William A. Scott, and John W. Scott. (Augustus and William both emigrated to Kansas in the 1880/1890s).

Would appreciate any information on SCOTTs, SUMMERVILLEs, and HARRIS surnames in Dubois County. Thomas SCOTT came to Dubois County in 1817 probably from South Carolina. It is believed that his wife was a HARRIS and is related to the HARRIS' in Dubois County. His sons Thomas and John married Cynthia SUMMERVILLE and Margaret KELSO DEMPSEY respectively.

I am trying to find the burial place for John L CAVENDER, died February 11, 1899 in Reeve Township, Daviess County. He resided in the Ferry House on the north bank of White River, across the river from Portersville. His parents, Jasper & Sarah Jane Cavender and brother Charles are buried in the Portersville Cemetery. His in-laws were F. M. and Lavina HEDRICK, who are buried in the Old Union cemetery at Alfordsville. I would appreciate any information that would help locate him, this is my gr-grandfather.

Dubois County Query- September 21,1996 I would appreciate any information concerning the following families: DAMEWOOD and CAVE. My Great Grandparents were: John Damewood born September 10,1829 in Dubois County, Indiana and Nancy Jane Cave born January 28, 1835 near French Lick, Orange/Dubois County, Indiana. Both were members of the Methodist church from childhood. They were married in Dubois County on April 27, 1854. Nancy spoke of at least one brother, Thomas Cave. They left Indiana in 1855 and moved west eventually arriving in Oregon in 1861.

Query-Orange County September 21, 1996 CAVE. I am looking for any information about my Greatgrandmother Nancy Jane Cave who was born near French Lick on January 28, 1835 and/or her parents or siblings. I know she had at least one brother named Thomas. She was a Methodist from childhood. She married on April 27, 1854 John Damewood of nearby Dubois County and they moved west in 1855,arriving in Oregon in 1861.

Dubois County Nov. 15, 1996 I am looking for any information I might be able to get concerning a grandmother and grandfather that possibly were married in Dubois County. Their names are Sarah GOODMAN and William Jacob HANKS. They lived in Breckinridge County, KY. but since there was once a ferry that took Kentuckians to Indiana in Dubois Co. I think they were married in Dubois Co. If anyone can help me in any way I will be truly greatful. .
