PALIN - S.

Source: Crawfordsville Review 7-29-1919 p 7

The Indiana trainer, S. Palin is proving a very clever man with pacers. He acquired the record-breaking habit over the half mile track with Possibility and gradually worked on to the larger ovals where he is now making the stop watches hum with Verlie Patchen and Eva Abbe.  The former cut the half mile track record for pacing mares to 2:04 when she won at Youngstown and forced Single G out in 2:02 ¾ at Cleveland. He also won at Cleveland with Eva Abbe in 2:04 ½ and made Direct C. Burnett pace in 2:03 ¼ to keep in front of her at Kalamazoo. She is six years old by The Abbe out of Eva Hal by Direct Hal and is very apt to prove one of the high lights in the pacing world this year.

Sep Palin, the well known trainer of fast horses who formerly resided at Newtown had the misfortune of running over and killing an 8-year-old boy named Willis Vawter in Indianapolis Thursday April 7. The child, a son of Wilbur W. Vawter of 1065 Pomander Place, Indianapolis according to witneses ran out from behind a milk wagon at 955 W 13th street directly in front of Palin’s big automobile. Both right wheels of the machine passed over the boy’s body causing instant death. In the car with Mr. Palin were Mrs. Palin and their 8-year-old son and Wilmer L. Harris of Crawfordsville. Notwithstanding the fact that witnesses stated the accident was unavoidable the police said Palin would be charged with manslaughter. Mr. Palin is training a stable of fast horses at the Indianapolis fair grounds.
