Taken from: History of Montgomery County, Indiana (Indianapolis: AW Bowen, 1913) p 729

Frank D. PUGH, of the younger generation of tillers of the soil in Montgomery County the name of Frank D. Pugh who owns and operates a finely improved and valuable farm in Union Township is deserving to be placed in the front rank, as all will readily agree who have had occasion to look over his well kept farm and know anything of his methods of general farming and stock raising. He has succeeded because he has deserved to do so, having applied himself most industriously and carefully to his vocation as well as dealing honorably with his neighbors and others with whom he has had occasion to do business. He is a popular minister in the United Brethren Church. Mr. Pugh was born in December 1872 in Fountain County, Indiana, the son of Charles and Esther PECK Pugh. The father was born in Illinois in 1845 died in 1875. The mother was born in 1844 and died 1872. She spent her life in Fountain County. When a young man Charles Pugh came from the Prairie State into Fountain County to work as a farm hand and there he was married and there spent the rest of his life engaged in farming. His only child was Frank D. Pugh. The education of Frank was limited, for he had to work, being raised by his maternal grandmother when a boy, and being the only one on which the older man could depend; consequently there was always a great deal for the boy to do on the farm. On Sept. 10, 1893, he was married to Clara M. CLOUGH who was born in Fountain County, Indiana. After his marriage the subject attended college at Westfield ill with a view of entering the ministry. He took a five year course, making a splendid record. He then returned to Vermillion co, in to the town of St. Bernice, having been sent to that field as a minister by his denomination, the United Brethren Church and was there 3 and ½ years, giving eminent satisfaction and doing great work in building up the church there. In 1905 he moved to Crawfordsville where he was sent by the conference to build a church of that denomination, which at that time had no church in that city. There he continued to carry on his labors in a most commendable manner until 1910 when he moved with his family to his farm in Union Township and here has since remained. Mrs. Pugh's parents are Mark and Sarah HALL CLOUGH. The father was born in Ohio; mother in Kentucky. Mrs. Pugh received a good common school education. Three children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Pugh, namely: Emma born June 8, 1895, attending high school at New Market; Mary born Feb 10, 1897 is also in school and Edwin, born April 22, 1904 is in the local schools. Since moving to his farm the subject has devoted his attention to general farming and stock raising, making a specialty of Poland China hogs and good general breed of live stock, especially cattle. He owns 116 acres of productive land, all tillable and well tiled and on this land is to be seen a good, cozy home and large, substantial barn. Politically, he is a Republican, but has never been active in public matters.
