Solomon Stanton (deceased) was born April 10, 1812, in Guilford county, North Carolina. His parents, Benjamin and Elizabeth Stanton, were natives of the same state, and moved to Huntington county, Indiana, and died. Her father fought in the revolution. Solomon was raised on a farm, and in youth dug for gold in the mountains of his state. He was there married September 6, 1836, to Charity Swaim. She was born in Guilford county, North Carolina, January 16, 1801. They lived in North Carolina till 1841, when they emigrated to Parke county, Indiana, and settled in Liberty township. Mr. Stanton left his family at Sylvania while he built a log "mansion." It was a mansion for those days, for it measured 18 x 36, parlor and kitchen, and over the parlor was an "up-stairs," which few could boast. Here the family lived, and in that house Mr. Stanton died July 27, 1850. He left a wife and four children: Elizabeth, Martin L., Michael R., Letishey, living. John M. died July 26, 1844. Mrs. Stanton died December 2, 1873. She was also connected with the Regular Baptist church.
