William Templeton settled about 1830 or 1831 on what is known as the Templeton Farm east of Newtown.  He was the first man elected representative of the county in Richland Township. He was elected a second time and under circumstances which rarely occur.  He was elected after he was dead, dying on the day of the election.  The first 4th of July celebration and barbecue was held at Templeton’s.
