Veedersburg, April 16 - Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Krout have lost their second son in action in less than two months. Pfc. Gerald Krout, 27, previously reported missing, was killed in action March 24, his wife here has been advised. Recently a brother, Pfc. Kenneth Krout was also killed in Germany. A third brother, Pvt. Clarence, is in a hospital in France with a hand wound, while a fourth brother, Lyle, was recently given a medical discharge from the army. Gerald was born Oct. 1, 1917, and spent most of his life here. Surviving with the widow, the former Ruth Parkerson, are three children, Perry, Larry and Bonny Lou, with his parents and several brothers and sisters. He was with the 9th army and landed in France on D-Day.

Pfc. Gerald Krout was killed in action on March 24 in Germany, according to a War Department telegram to his wife here. Mrs. Krout had previously been informed that he was missing action on that day. His death marks the second one in the Krout family in less than two months. A brother, Pfc. Kenneth Krout was killed in Germany a few weeks ago. Another brother, Pvt Clarence Krout is in an army hospital in France for treatment of a hand wound. A fourth brother, Lyle was recently given a medical discharge from the army. A cousin, Theron Krout, was killed in action a few months ago. Pfc Gerald Krout was born Oct 1 1917, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Krout. The most of his life was spent in Veedersburg. He was married to Ruth Parkerson, who survives along with three children, Perry 6, Larry 4 and Bonnie Lou 2. Also surviving are the parents and several brothers and sisters. He had been overseas more than a year, landing in France on D-Day. He was serving in the Ninth Army.

Pvt. First Class Gerald Krout, of Veedersburg was Killed in Action on March 24 in Germany according to a War Department Telegram received Wednesday by his wife. Mrs. Krout was informed last Friday that her
husband was Missing In Action.

This marks the second casualty in the Krout family within two months as a brother, Pfc. Kenneth Krout, was also killed in Germany.  Another brother, Pvt Clarence Krout, was is in an Army Hospital recovering from wounds.  A fourth brother, Lyle recently received a medical discharge from the Army.

The death of Gerald also makes the third Krout boy from Veedersburg giving his life, as his cousin, Theron Krout was killed last summer.

Gerald was well known in Veedersburg and is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruth Parkerosn Krout, three children, Perry 6; Larry 4; and Bonnie Lou age 2.  He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Krout and several brothers and sisters all of Veedersburg and at home.

Before being inducted into the Army  he operated a straw and hay bailer in this section.  He had been overseas for over a year and landed in France on D-Day, being assigned to the 9th Army.

The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the Krout family in their great sacrifices and bereavement. No great lover for Country can be asked and no greater price could be paid   --- transcribed by kbz
