Friends here have been advised of the death of Sgt. Billy Raynes, 23, the grandson of former Veedersburg residents. He was killed in action May 25 on Okinawa while serving in the US Marines. Sgt. Raynes enlisted four years ago while a student at Wabash College. His grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. William Patton with whom he made his home, were residents of Veedersburg. He had often visited more recently in Veedersburg at the home of Mrs. Martha Ansberry. --- transcribed by kbz
