Mrs. John Thorn

Jamestown Press Friday, 4 Aug. 1911 page 1 Jamestown, Boone County, Indiana BUG IN EAR FOR 32 YEARS

Entered Ear of Mrs. John Thorn Causing Almost Deafness in That member Wednesday afternoon, at Waynetown, Dr. Bounell removed a bug that had been in Mrs. John Thorn's ear for 32 years. Mrs. Thorn, who lives one mile south of Mellott, has doctored all of these years for ear trouble and at times has been almost deaf, suffering intense pain but with the treatment got very little relief. In explaining her case to Dr. Bounell, she said that when she was ten years old a bug crawled into her ear, and if it had ever passed out, it was beyond her knowledge. After the doctor had thoroughly washed out the ear, he inserted his ear forceps and to his astonishment and the lady as well, he removed the bug encased in earwax. The insect was fully half an inch in length and was of the hard shell variety which are numerous of an evening. The lady was relieved at once and there is every reason to believe that her hearing will be restored.
