Veedersburg—James A. Iffert, 70, formerly of Veedersburg, died at 11:58 a.m. Monday, May 22, 1989 at Covington Manor Health Care Center. He had lived with his daughter, Mertie in Kingman.

  He was born Nov. 4, 1919 in Elkhart, the son of Sylvester and Sara Orley Iffert. He married Marie B. Axsom, who preceded him in death in 1982.

    He was retired from the Indiana state Highway Department.

  Surviving are two daughters, Mertie Myers, Route 1, Kingman, and Betty Hargis, Crawfordsville; two sons, Chester Rice, Cayuga, and Robert Rice, Georgetown, Ill.; 19 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

  Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Thursday at Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg, with the Rev. Lance Marshall officiating. Burial was in Bonebrake Cemetery. -s
