Hillsboro – Ernest P. Jahnke, 61, a member of Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Department died at 11 a.m. Monday in Culver Hospital, Crawfordsville.  Mr. Jahnke was at the scene of a service station fire here Monday morning when he suffered a heart attack.  Born at Waynetown, he graduated from Hillsboro HS in 1932.  Mr. Jahnke was employed by Hillsboro Lumber Co. the past two years.  Prior to that he was manager of Veedersburg Grain Co.  He was a member of Hillsboro Town Board and clerk treasurer for 20 years.  Mr. Jahnke was also a member of Tri-County Volunteer Fire Department.  In 1937 he was married to Dorothy Self, who survives.  He was a member of Hillsboro American Legion Post 188 and Hillsboro Booster Club.  He also served as treasurer of the American Legion and of both Hillsboro and Tri County fire departments.  He was an Army veteran of WWII.  Surviving with the widow are a daughter, Mrs. Dale (Beverly) Keeling of Rt 3, Veedersburg; one son, Larry G. Jahnke of Lake Holiday near Crawfordsville; a brother, Karl E. Jahnke, who is chief of Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Department and four sisters, Mrs. Ruth Epperson of Attica; Mrs. Louise Dorn of Red Bud, Ill and Mrs. Ruby Hershberger and Mrs. Dorothy Neal, both of Indianapolis.

“Funeral Notices” – Jahnke, Ernest P – Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Crumley-Williams Funeral Home, Hillsboro.  Service there at 2 p.m. Wednesday, the Rev. Dorman Winger officiating.  Interment Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro. Also surviving are three grandchildren.
