Hillsboro - Samuel E. Janeway, 77, 3332 E. 40 S, Hillsboro died in Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, at 2:12 p.m. Monday Sept 28, 1998. He had been hospitalized one day after suffering a stroke on Sunday. Born April 1, 1921 in Hillsboro, he was the son of Oscar and May Newlin Janeway. He married Evelyn June Willhauck Oct 27, 1946 in Union City, Tenn who survives. He was a life resident of Hillsboro. He graduated from Hillsboro HS in 1939. He had farmed all of his life in Fountain and Montgomery counties. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army he was a B-24 pilot. He was a member of the Hillsboro Christian Church, where he served as an Elder and Deacon of the church. He had served as a member of the official board of the church. He was a member of the American Legion Post 188 of Hillsboro; Fountain County Farm Bureau Board; and a 25-year- member of the Production Credit Association Board, where he had served as president for 17 years. He had served on the Fountain County 4-H Council. He assisted in the development of the Hillsboro Little League baseball field. He helped furnish American and State of Indiana flags to help adorn the streets of Hillsboro. Survivors beside shis wife include daughters, Nancy J (Ed) Beasley, rural Veedersburg, Mary J (Ted) Harris, Crawfordsville; sisters, Mildred (Harold) Hamm, St. Petersburg, Fla; Mary Ellen Janeway, Indianapolis and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Lowell, Charles, Donald, George and Tom; and sister Mabel Terbush. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hillsboro Christian Church with Revs. Frank Everett and Gary Johnson officiating. Burial with military graveside rites were in Rose Hill Cemetery.
