Verne L. Jennings, 77, of 1417 Oak, died at 12:25 a.m. today (Sept. 20, 1969) in St. Elizabeth Hospital where he had been admitted a few hours earlier. He had been ill for a year. A native of Crawfordsville, Ind., Mr. Jennings was a retired railroader. He was born Feb. 28, 1892, the son of Isaac and Julia Saidla Harshbarger. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Laverne) Smith, Danville; a half-sister, Mrs. Goldia Parson, Williamsport, Ind.; four half-brothers, Winfred Harshbarger, Williamsport, Leo Harshbarger, Bloomingdale, Ind., Russell Harshbarger, Attica, Ind., and Glenn Harshbarger, California; one granddaughter; five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gracia, earlier this year, a sister, a brother and a half-brother. Mr. Jennings was a car inspector for the C&EI railroad until retiring in 1957. He was a member of Lincoln Methodist Church, Old Rails & New Ties and Carmen's Local No. 561. He was an overseas Army veteran of World War I. The body is at Barrick & Son Funeral Home where visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. Patrick Flaherty will officiate, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park.--waw
