BURIAL RITES AT NEWTOWN FOR VETERAN TEACHER Newtown- Burial rites were held in the Newton Cemetery for Mrs. Mae Dagger Johnson who died suddenly last Thursday night at her home in Murdoc. She was born Oct 26, 1886, in Newtown, the daughter of Henry and Anne Lew Dagger. She was graduated from Newtown High School and Indiana University. In 1954 she received her Master’s degree from Indiana. Mrs. Johnson was a former teacher in the Mellott and Newtown schools and while the family resided in Fowler taught in the Fowler and Pine Township schools. For the past 15 years she had taught Latin and English in the new consolidated school at Murdoc. She was married 40 years ago to Fred Johnson, who died in 1951. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at Anderson and had been active in Auxiliary affairs of the American Legion while residing at Fowler. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Margaret Furnace and Mrs. Dorothy Huggins of Anderson, Mrs. Martha Thomas of Dunkirk and Mrs. Patricia McAdams of Muncie, and six grandchildren. Three nieces, Mrs. Leona Mitchell, Mrs. Kathryn Galloway and Mrs. Maxine McKelvey, reside in Newtown. Rev. Leroy Honk, pastor of the Newtown Presbyterian Church, officiated at the burial here.
