JOLLEY, Mary E.

COVINGTON - Miss Mary E. Jolley, age 91, of Crawfordsville, grand-aunt of Dr. Carl Jolley of New Zealand, a former resident of Covington and Fountain County, died at 9:15 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, in Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville after an extended illness. Miss Jolley, who had helped thousands of Crawfordsville area mothers rear their babies, was born in Almena, Kan., July 21, 1879, the daughter of Francis and Rhoda VanCleave Jolley. She was a graduate of the Culver Union Hospital Nurses' Training Program in 1909. She retired from duty as a registered nurse in 1928, but continued to give advice and practical help to novice mothers for years, often via the telephone. She was a member of the Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church in Crawfordsville. Surviving are several nieces and nephews, including Carl F. Jolley of Crawfordsville, father of Dr. Carl Jolley. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hunt & Son Funeral Home in Crawfordsville. The Rev. L. K. Wickett officiated and burial was in the Masonic Cemetery, Crawfordsville. - jlr
