Joint funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. James L. Jones and their 2 1/2 year old daughter, Patricia Louise, former residents of Covington, who met instant death at about 6 p.m. Saturday, May 15, in a train-car accident, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington. Their care was struck by a southbound C&E I passenger train at the Mann's Chapel crossing, 5 miles southeast of Rossville, Ill., and some 35 miles northwest of Covington. The father had been working only the last three weeks at the Lloyd Kentner farm, Rossville Rt.2, and the family lived in a tenant dwelling there. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He attended school at Brocton, Ill., and was a member of the Mt. Carmel Church. He was 31 years old and was born June 21, 1933 in Edgar County, Ill., the son of Kenneth and Ruby Conley Jones. He was married to Mary Louise Harper on Aug. 14, 1960. Surviving are: the parents of Hume, Ill.; the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Flora Jones of Redmon, Ill.; and nine brothers and sisters, Mrs. Barbara Cooke of Brocton, Ill., Mrs. Pauline Lancaster of Elmonta, Calif., Donald R. Jones of Hume, Earl Jones of Paris, Ill., Mr.s Marcella Coy of Chrisman, Ill., William Jones of Fort Bragg, NC and Misses Judy Linn and Shirley Jean Jones, both of Hume. He was preceded in death by one sister. His wife, Mary Louise Jones, age 25, was born Feb. 19, 1940 in Danville, Ill., the daughter of Fred E. and Leora Gritten Harper. She was married to James L. Jones Aug 14, 1960. She attended Rabb School at Wabash Twp., and graduated from Perrysville High School in1950. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, south of Covington. She is survived by her parents; paternal grandmother, Mrs Cecile Harper of Tilton, Ill.; and five brothers and sisters, Mrs. Alice M. Wenigk of Muncie, Ill., Fred E. Harper Jr. of Potomac, Ill., Donald E. U S Army at Fort Lewis, Wash., William R. Harper, U S Army, Pacific Theatre, and Jack L. Harper, U S Navy aboard the USS Saratoga. Their daughter Patricia Louise, was born in Danville, Ill., Aug 13, 1962. Surviving are: her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Harper of Covington Rt.1; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Jones of Hume, Ill., maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Cecile Harper of Tilton, Ill.; paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Flora Jones of Redmon, Ill., and several aunts and uncles. The Rev. William Rudd officiated and burial was in the cemetery adjoining the Mt. Carmel Church. Pallbearers for Mr. Jones were: Fred Crowder, Bud Luth, Neumann Auter, Clark Dye, Richard Garrison and Noah Allen; for Mrs. Jones, Don Gritten, John Ferman, John Bryant, Charles Bryant and Robert Bryand; and for the child, Larry Luth, Garry Dye, Jack Emory, Buddy Rudd, Larry Glascock and Neal Clem.
